We somehow both picked the same topics for our presentation and the other got mad

"May the best man...or woman...win."

You understood the system and how the minds of professors work so you knew to volunteer first. You won. Take it and leave it. If she wants to make a personal issue out of this then that is her own fault. You are taking your master's courses and have more important things to worry about.

How should you approach this?

Step 1: Don't care.

The only thing you SHOULD worry about are statements between the two of you that may contradict each other. For a 600 level course, the professor is likely to either know who is right or delve into your sources and do some personal research to find out if one of you was just BSing your way through or if both legitimately can accredit your statements to your sources. From the sound of it, though, you're not the one that needs to worry. Who cares if she has a personal problem with it. You both could have picked less generic subjects, but you at least made the effort to lean towards ethics and not just cover something that someone could find out by reading a wiki article for 2 minutes.

From the sound of it, her presentation was very high-school quality and by no means worthy of a collegiate environment.

Why are you making a lame PP presentation in a 600 level course for a Master's degree?

RFID is a popular topic. The likelihood of more than 1 person picking it for a presentation is pretty high.

You say nothing to her. You took the initiative to present first. You did the better job. If you try to talk to her about it, she'll think you're trying to rub it in.

She actually is..... But from Nigeria.

It's just the thing is when your in such a small class size such as in the Master's program you need to make freinds. It's just a general idea to have some sort of network. Making enemies with one person will lead to another thing.

So start the rumor that she stole your idea?

Perception is reality. Strike first and strike hard.

It's the first course of the major. So you have a lot of older people and people with lots of different majors that may or maynot be IT realated (i.e. business, biology, accounting). So the first course is always taught at a high level standpoint.
