<< get monday's off would be better.

No one does any work on friday anyway...
>>

no one does any work on mondays either...so if we got mondays off nothing would get done on tuesday. our economy would start to suck as bad as france's (35-hour work week.)

<< Software developers should work Friday - Monday and take Tu, W, Th off.

Software always ships on a Monday, including small builds. :)
>>

That way when you install something at the client's site and it breaks they have to wait till Friday to get it fixed.

<< Keep the 5-day workweek, but make the standard vacation day allocation 25-30 days instead of 10-15. I still don't understand how you are supposed to allocate 10 measly vacation days over an entire year. Take a week-long vacation in the summer and you only have 5 stupid days left! Taking off the day after Christmas (where nobody does any work whatsoever) brings that down to 4. Sure, if you work for a company 10 years you start getting some real vacation time, but let me see a show of hands of software developers who stay at the same company for 10+ years! >>

hahahaha!!!! I call in at least once a month just to be able to use all my time. Next year they are giving me more.

It sucks pretty bad now and people are working 60hrs a week. The number of work hours probably has small effects on the robustness of the economy, after all, the type of industry that require long work hours can always open longer weekend/night shifts to get the work done. A three day weekend would also likely add more jobs and create a much bigger entertainment/leisure industry which helps to diversify the economy, a good thing.

I'm fine with 5/8's. It's the OT I hate. I don't understand people in the computer industry who can't get a job. My company has hired 800+ techs in the last 7 months and is still looking for more. The only drawback to my job is that you have to produce enough to make $ for the company. You can't be neffing on ATOT all day long.

I'm working 5/8 on a co-op for college, but I'll be done in a few weeks and have classes full time over the Summer. I get Fridays off in the Summer (from class, though there will probably be lots of lab work).

They've done something interesting where my dad works: every day they work 10 hour shifts, so every other week they get a four day weekend.
