It's NOT an M3, and I'm NOT saying that they have similar 'ring times or exhibit identical performance. However, they share many over-arching design choices (RWD, IRS, balanced weight, aluminum suspension components, etc) so they are
comparable with a definite American twist in the LS.
The M3 is a bit lighter and has more power, so it is definitely the straight-line king. But it only has a small advantage in turning and braking, and that might go away depending on tire choice.
And there are bolt-on boosting kits (supercharger I think?) that get the LS into 400+whp territory on the stock long-block. It's not a bad little car.
