how does something like this happen? a whole bunch of dogs at a 'rescue' place get distemper? that's a standard vaccination. was the 'rescue' place not doing vaccinations? just doesn't make any sense to me.

Thank you all for the kind words. I doubt we get another dog soon, but we will get another one eventually when we're ready. Maybe 6 months, maybe a year. I'll never rescue another animal again, that's for sure. Our rescue cat has a terminal heart disease, and then poor little Brody.

There is nothing wrong with proper rescues and it's a terrible waste to not use them.

Vaccinations take time to work. It's possible the puppies already had distemper prior to the rescue getting them.

Like a few others, this story hits home for me.

Yes, please don't give up on rescues. We saved a Rat Terrier from some well meaning teens that bought her from a puppy mill in Arkansas. She was a mess when we got her, but she turned into a terrific little bundle of energy. Bella

RIP little Brody.

I take back what I said about this crappy rescue not cashing the check for Brody. They sat on it the entire time he was sick, and right after he put him down they decided to cash it.

True and why proper facilities quarantine the animals first. There is no guarantees but the symptoms of distemper should be evident prior to the quarantine end.
