In the past week Ive gone on a plane trip and ive donated plasma. In Both of these places i couldnt use my cell phone cause it could possibly disrupt the sensative instrauments. So we can put a man on the moon but we cant prevent electronics from being disrupted by our cell phones. do you think they just say that so people wont use them because both these places are very personal and you are in close range of alot of people and they just dont want to be annoyed?

Hospitals are the same way. I've always used my phone at/in the hospital and have never had/heard of any problems. Personally, I think it's bs.

I think the real question should be, "Why did you want to talk on your cell phone while donating plasma?"

Christ, communication is important, but who were you going to call while you had a huge needle in your arm?

Yeah, you just don't know about all the people you've killed. :p

If there was technology to allow cell phone use on planes and in hospitals, someone would get hurt or die and, despite the technology having nothing to do with it, they/their family would win a few billion in a lawsuit with 12 jurors whose combined IQ wouldn't surpass 80. Not much motivation for innovation..

I love how fsking dependant people have become to their precious cell phones. I hate them. What did people EVER do without them when they were driving, or going to a movie?

Thank God you can't use your phone in all of those places. It's annoying enough watching people running around everywhere they go while always on the telephone. Look, NOTHING is so important that you ALWAYS have to be on the phone.

The world worked just fine before there were cell phones.

Worked fine before the internet, too.

exactly. i only have one usable arm, its too loud to read, and they dont want you to fall asleep, texting will keep me awake and occupied, its not like i have to text, because i dont do it now when i donate, i just dont like being bored

it is a control issue, airlines/hospitals want to control you, the risk of interference from a cell phone is extremely small

I can't help but laugh uncontrollably from that statement.

Oh stfu newb. It takes, what, 15 minutes to give blood? Are you that impatient? No wonder people think the entire youth of America has ADD.

Because we can't change the laws of physics. Radio waves is radio waves and you never can be too sure that the some piece of important equipment will pick up the interference from the transmitter you're carrying and go bonkers.

My fiancee's aunt is a nurse and I actually asked her about this last year at a hospital, and she pointed out a specific type of heart monitor that would go berserk whenever a TDMA cellphone rang near it.

There's certain places where you don't want to take this chance, even if the risk is quite minimal:
Hospitals
Airplanes
Blast sites

etc.

We can put a man on the moon but McDonald's can't find a way to make a Bacon Egg and Cheese biscuit after 11AM.

That is really just a question of space. They could put an extra grill somewhere, because the heat is different for burgers and eggs.

We can put a man on the Moon, but we can't do Time Travel or create a Anti-Gravity Belt.

Donating plasma takes a little longer than giving blood. I have donated and it takes from 45 minutes to 1 1/2 hours.
