Oh stfu newb. It takes, what, 15 minutes to give blood? Are you that impatient? No wonder people think the entire youth of America has ADD.

Its plasma, not blood. Forget already?

Also, please don't use your phone while pumping gas. Thank you.

Why not?

It's a joke... You've never heard about cell phones causing gasoline fires? :p

Didn't know if you were actually serious or not. I've seen those retarded stickers telling you not to use a cell while pumping gas, but i've never figured out why you can't.

Honestly, I thought giving plasma and blood were about the same timeframes. Now, I know better!

Because the high powered batteries on the phones can possibly spark, causing a flare up and/or fire.

The risk is quite small, but it HAS happened before.

I've never heard of a good reason why using a cell phone in a plane can be dangerous..
the folks around airports dont stop using their cellphones when a plane is landing - why is one inside the plane so much more dangerous than one just outside?

and why is the onboard $5 a minute sat phone any safer?

I guess Snopes could be wrong.

Hmmm...should have figured Snopes would know! Funnily enough though, the filling station at my university has a big sign barring use of cell phones near the gas pumps. :)

I actually thought there wasn't any documented incidents. But the last time I pointed out the simple chemistry behind why these signs exist, I was accused of being a fear monger.

Yes, there is an astoundingly remote chance that your cellphone could cause a gas station fire.
And in other, less harrowing news, the sky is falling.

Maybe people won't shoot the messenger this time around.

PS - even Snopes doesn't deny that the risk could be legitimate, their statement of fact is that there has never been a documented case of it actually happening.

The only reason I could think of is if you dropped a phone with a metal casing, it could cause a spark on the ground and ignite.

Hah yah, you want to know the really funny thing about that? Go to the next gas station down the road and there's a good chance that they won't have a sticker. ;)

I'm a firm believer that most of these 'cell phone fires' are caused by females. Why? Well, is it just me, or does it seem as if a lot of younger girls GET BACK INTO THEIR VEHICLE while the gasoline is pumping? Hrmm, what do you think might get generated while a girl is sitting in her car rubbing her feet against the carpet? Okay, let's add to this that she is on a cell phone. Well, if a fire starts when she's removing the nozzle then the culprit is obviously the cell phone... right? ;)

That is really just a question of space. They could put an extra grill somewhere, because the heat is different for burgers and eggs.

yeah, it was just a simple joke, though ;)

We can put a man on the moon but we can't design office building with effective zone controls for HVAC. I FREEZE in the morning and by afternoon I'm near sweating.

Why is it that we can put a man on the roof, but we can't find a renewable source of food?

In the words of the great philosophical ICP: "We can intergallactic, satellite data compress, yes... but we can't feed the homeless."

hehe... and who ever said ICP was stupid. :D ok, so they still are.

Ever tried to use your mobile phone near a old 14" CRT display, or near some old radio? On the display, the image starts to jump up and down. I hate to think of what could happen to some life supporting system.
by the way, the reason for which it is hard to protect something from the mobile phones is the capacity of penetration the mobile phone signal have.

Calin

EDIT: By the way, if you don't want to feel guilty, don't use mobile phone near anyone with a pace maker

TDMA phones do that...my GSM phone does not.

Thank God you can't use your phone in all of those places. It's annoying enough watching people running around everywhere they go while always on the telephone. Look, NOTHING is so important that you ALWAYS have to be on the phone.

The world worked just fine before there were cell phones.

I think someone put him on the roof and then pushed him off. Multiple times.
