My store said they never got a shipment in but I could do a raincheck but the IR would be the only rebate they would honour,if it didn't come in before the mail in rebates ran out I would be out of luck.

I was the first person in line at the Elk River, MN store this AM.
They were out of the mice and wanted to sub a different burner.
A few other people were looking for the burner but I was the only one getting a hard drive.
I don't know how many they had but it was a lot of them and they had them in a number of places around the store.
I said to the manager that I thought people would be lined up for these and he said he thought so too.
Unless a bunch of people came in later during the day to buy these, they may still have some tomorrow.

(seems like the ppl who posted above who got rainchecks wont be able...)

I was told by one the OM ee's that the rebates won't apply and that they're offering the drive for $20 (AR price). Unfortunately, I can't give you a good answer as to how and why this is the case, but I guess it's another YMMV type thing.

I have absolutely no need for this drive but bought one anyway. Good drive, great price... I just couldn't pass it up. I guess this bolsters the argument that everything on infomercials is $19.95 because $20 is, for some reason, the amount that people (read: me) will drop on a whim.

Thanks mato7742. Great deal on a great drive.

No, didn't pay for anything. I filled out a 'raincheck' form with the sku#, amount in rebates, PAR, date, and my signature. I was given the carbon copy and walked out of the store. I don't know if I would've paid for this item if it wasn't in stock due to the high volume of orders online/B&M. Not sure if this item will be in stock for a *while*. However, if you purchased the item today you should be okay as far as the rebates go (expires next saturday i think).

How are you guys getting this HD???? It wasn't at their site yesterday and it's still not at their site. Is this B&M store only? The link at techbargains says nothing about it being B&M and of course the link for it to Omax is bad as usual.

Rainchecks.
More, later this week.
Maybe Wednesday.

All plausible.

All mean 2 or more trips, right?

Guess if it is on your way, not too much of a time investment?
Otherwise - time, mileage, effort, ...?

Please, come to our store, multiple times. :)

It was on their site (briefly), but they pulled it Sunday morning.

I had one on backorder from Officemax.com, but according to Customer Service at OfficeMax, the rebates will not apply if I recieve the drive after 1/31. So I cancelled.

i am on a budget so these drives will work adequately for me although i'd love larger ones.

but i love it when employees don't do a good job - i just came from an om that had 23 in stock because the worker yesterday didn't know they had them. so score a few for my new starter raid at 20 bucks a pop.

good luck to ya'll this is a nice enough deal and be sure to check with your local stores to confirm oos.

I was told differently by the store manager. That the rebates would apply on a unit shipped on 2-4-04. I'm skeptical however and can see a hassle coming.

Exactly. I knew it was going to be a fight and in my opinion it's not worth it for an 80 gig 2 MB drive.

So I cancelled. I'll wait for a faster, larger drive.

That's my question too.

I bought this Hard Drive. GREAT DEAL! (99.95 - $20 instant savings + tax) I walked out with it for $87.change But to send in the rebates, both rebate forms say they need the original UPC???#@&@* :|

Anyone know what's up with this?

... and About the Warranty... The box clearly states it has a One Year Warranty. There's a certificate in the box where you can go online and extend the Warranty to 3 years for $15.

Whatever on that.

Is this the 8MB "caviar" JB version, or the 2 MB "BB" version??

What's the model name?
It is the WD800JB with 8MB Cache. I bought it yesterday. :D

The OM rebate form states that if there is also a mfr. rebate, that a copy is ok for the OM rebate.

It IS the 8 mb cache drive. Actually, I haven't seen the 2 mb cache 80 gb drive for sale at a retail store for a while now. Most WD drives at 80 GB and above these days seems to be the JB drive.

Besides.. ANY 80 gb drive for $20 is hot!

The Add in the Sunday paper said it was a Store Only deal. Not online. :(

Can either of these rebates be submitted online? And what sites would that be? I haven't done too many OM rebates, but I know they have that feature.

Yes, it was a hot deal. No question there. However, I had it ordered online and it could have been god knows how long before it shipped to me. So I dropped out, sa'll good. Plenty of drives in the sea.

Man this is hot, even hotter if you get a raincheck with no rebates hassle. I'll have to check it out.

With OM's recent track record, they'll be offering GOOD Deals on WD drives for months to come. They last 4 or 5+ Sunday paper ad's have had great deals on WD drives.

I bought a 160gigger for $79.95 a few weeks ago. Couldn't pass this deal up for $20! I'd say just keep your eyes pealed with OM and you'll see another deal like this pop up.

I guess I'm lucky to live in a city where we have (5 that I know of and probably more) plenty of Office Max retail stores so I'm bound to find instock. :D

I went to OM yesterday and they were already sold out. I got a raincheck for it and was told by the store manager that if they don't receive more within a week, they will give it to me for the after rebates price of $19.99 plus tax. $20.00 out the door would be sweet. Then, I wouldn't have to keep my fingers crossed expecting the rebates to come.
