What monitoring program is in use? CPUiD hardware monitor breaks down the temp for each of the 12 cores, and an overall package temp. If the individual core temps are ok, then I would cast a suspicious eye at the 'package' temp. I'm wondering if, as a non-supported chip (but working, none-the-less), if the sensors are being read incorrectly or something.

Only two things to try, 1.) elevate the motherboard off the cardboard, and 2.) swap coolers?

*****************************************************

In other news, ThunderStrike's new motherboard arrived today, untracked. And guess what I forgot to remove from the old motherboard before sending it in? Again. Yep, the Intel standoffs that mount to the motherboard, and allow me to attach my CoolerMaster 212 EVO heatsinks. ///slaps forehead repeatedly......with a ball bat/// For testing, I have managed to steal the set from the cooler on my AMD board with triple GTX1070, and only use two each per processor on the new board.
I got a set of those from somewhere on the net for $10

So how do you tell if its throttling ? I think somebody posted a tool about that.

If you feel like posting a good photo of the parts in question, it's possible I have some of those. Most of my 212 EVOs have gone on 1150/1151 boards, which use a different standoff.

Only the 2011 socket uses the short ones, maybe 4mm tall (not counting the threaded shaft). BUT, I'm actually making due at the moment, only at 42C on CPU2 and 50C on CPU1 running WCG and Folding on ThunderStrike v2.0 (finally). :) You will possibly need those in the future, as you grow to higher density?

Ok, so, what's this WCG race going on? Now that NiceHash got hacked, and is kaput, I can put my Ryzen 5 1600 rigs on WCG, and my GPUs on F@H, for Dec., it seems. Fill me in, are there any specific sub-projects to WCG I need to run?

Yeah, my plan is to eventually replace all the quad cores with higher core count CPUs. Not in the near term, though, I'll be paying for the stuff I just bought for a while. Sounds like you are doing okay without the extras. Probably a good thing ThunderStrike's motherboard is horizontally mounted. I've run machines just by slapping a HSF on with TIM and no hardware at all, at least for testing.

They're all fair game. I don't think you have to do anything special, just crunch away!

So I just got a E5-2658v3 ES chip. Its only running 2.3 ghz in turno mode with 12 cores. My E5-2683v3 retail chips are running 60c with the same cooler, but this one is running 90c ! Any ideas ? 0.87 vcore/vid Its a Coolermaster 612 v2, a really good HSF. I can't believe its really doing that. Its this chip: (screen shots)
https://www.ebay.com/itm/14-Intel-Xeon-E5-2658-v3-ES-QEYP-2-2GHz-12C-LGA2011-3-Compatible-X99-i7-6950X/232546047651?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2648

Its not even in a case now ! and ambient temp is about 70f. Its on a cardboard box
OK, you can all laugh, because I am. And I am dead serious. I should never start a build until I have had at least 3 beers. The problem was that I had not removed the plastic cover from the bottom of the HSF out of the box, I was going too fast and cold sober. I need to slow down, and have a few beers before I start to build. After 9 beers and going to bed, it struck me, and sure enough that was it. Removing the plastic went from 91c to 58c max.

Please have a good laugh at my expense, I deserve it.

So I have 266 current tasks running (threads)

Nice one Mark! Glad you got that straightened out. :)

I've fired up my main Ryzen R5 1600 box, got 10 threads on WCG, and just a single GPU slot on my RX 570 4GB. Looks like 200,000PPD for F@H? Seems quite a bit lower than the GTX1060 3GB in the other box, even though the CPU in this box should be stronger, and both of those GPUs are similar capability in gaming, but it seems like F@H really loves NV cards...

Edit: That's at a -15% power adjustment in WattMan, which is what I needed for mining, to keep my machine / GPU from crashing. Maybe I can ease that up for Folding? Or is it a good idea to keep a power limit for Folding@Home as well?

Edit: Black-screen crash! Ugh! I've clocked my Ryzen R5 1600 back to stock, and am running at a -10% power limit in WattMan, fired things back up, hopefully, they won't crash again.

I find Ryzen gets unstable overclocking anything over stock, it seems, under heavy load. Or maybe, I've got one of the early models, with a bug, and I can get it replaced by AMD under warranty... well, maybe not, since I've overclocked it.

Edit: My HP Wal-Mart special with i5-7400 and GTX1060 3GB card, running solely F@H right now, is running at 82C on the video card, which I believe is higher than NV's current Pascal cards like to run. (I believe they throttle at 80C.)

Hmm, I wonder if NVidia has any kind of power-limit thing in their Control Panel? Fan speed is 62-63%, but strangely, doesn't seem to be ramping up, but Core freq. appears to be throttling.

What @crashtech said. Though after a while you could check on the credits per runtime of the WUs you got and narrow down to what works best on your systems. Across all WCG contributors, all subprojects give quite similar PPD, surely by design: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/viewProjects.do (Go to the pages of the individual projects, then look at "points per hour of run time".) But those PPD are only the average over all participating hosts; it will look somewhat different on a given individual host. On Linux, the subprojects which use the vina code base (SCC, OZ, OET...) give above average credits per hour per core.

Along the Christmas Race until December 25, we are also registered in the following challenges which are going on until December 31. (Except LLBXS which ended already.)
There are a number of races in World Community Grid going on:

In the LLBXS78765 race we are #1 among 45 teams,
In the Christmas race we are #3 among 40 teams,
In the Dec 2017 By-points All-projects we are #3 among 53 teams,
In the Dec 2017 By-results All-projects we are #2 among 49 teams,
In the Dec 2017 By-time All-projects we are #3 among 48 teams,
In the Dollars Run we are #2 among 49 teams,
In the S#C 2017DecCancerFight we are #1 among 29 teams.

Quite a good result, isn't it?

BTW: here are all the current challenges/races:
All subprojects are counted in each of these challenges, with the exception of DecCancerFight. That one is limited to Mapping Cancer Markers.

plastic cover from the bottom of the HSF out of the box
This is not a one-off problem, tbh. A lot of people at some point had this issue. If only HSF manufacturers have a coloured plastic to cover its contact point, that would be great.
Speaking of CPU, I managed to snatch Athlon 845 from stock clearing event here. It won't have better performance, but at least I don't have to be sweaty anymore through the night.

If Linux, try the method by hiigaran in the guide: https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/guide-linux-mint-18-3-cinnamon-with-nvidia-gpu-s.2528920/

As always, you get previous day's stats with the 12 hour delay that the WCG web server is taking for challenge stats updates, plus my own latency. Which today included a delivery guy ringing, bringing more parts for future folding...

Meanwhile, [H]ard|OCP are busy recruiting, and scouring their basements for old forgotten quad cores to keep Team China at bay.

Anybody mind to share their MIP task duration? Especially one that just downloaded for last 24 hours. I am baffled because after swapping my CPU last night, it went from about 1.5 hrs to 3.5 hrs.

MIP ? The only tasks I have running are mapping cancer markers and smash childhood cancer. About 270 tasks.

I would say 1.5 hours is average for MIP.
1.5 of yours should be translated into 2-2.5hrs for me. It is preliminary result, though. I hope it will be stabilised in coming days.

In other story, I manage to slash about 1 hour in MCM and about 20 mins in OET. Now I just have to wait 2-3 days to get clearer picture. But one thing for sure, I had better sleep last night because it's less noisy and expel lesser heat than the 860k.

Of the 18 validated tasks my 5820k@4.2GHz has had in the last couple of days, the average is 1.235 hours per task: between 0.76 - 1.85.

@ao_ika_red , My MIP WU times are all over the place. I'd need to take a page of them, eliminate the obvious outliers, and average them. Is there a particular CPU you have in mind? My Skylakes can get as low as .6 hour, my Westmeres as high as 3.0 hours.

My old cpu (Athlon 860k) could go as low as 45 mins and 1hr45min in other spectrum. The new one (Athlon 845), based on last 24hrs run, consistently hit 3+hrs mark.

edit: Another thought: this 845 cpu has 2MB less of L2 cache compared to 860k. Will it somehow cripple its MIP performance? Because as far as I can tell, the problem is only isolated to MIP, meanwhile other WCG sub-projects enjoy substatial boost.

I measured MIP in November on E5-2696v4 @ 2.8GHz, Windows 7.
120 tasks measured,
1.32 h average, edit: 554 BOINC credits/day/thread average,
0.55...2.35 h min...max,
0.70...2.04 h 5-percentile...95-percentile,
0.39 h standard deviation

Thanks for the stats, Stefan. While [H] is still within China's firing range, we're just hanging in no man's land territory.

I measured MIP in November on E5-2696v4 @ 2.8GHz, Windows 7.
120 tasks measured,
1.32 h average, edit: 554 BOINC credits/day/thread average,
0.55...2.35 h min...max,
0.70...2.04 h 5-percentile...95-percentile,
0.39 h standard deviation

Well, after some feedback, I think the consensus is about 1.5 hrs for MIP. If mine still gets 3 hrs in the next download batch, I will ditch MIP.
