I'd wish he was my pal. The dude is steering a huge tech company and deserves respect for what he does. People mocking him personally, because their graphics cards are more expensive than what they like, is petty to say the least.

Say what you want friend Igor, Nvidia is providing the PC with tech, that we wouldn't otherwise see in our wildest dreams. Other competing platforms do not see them in their dreams as well. This has a price, like it or not.

Then so do Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg. While we are at it, we should respect Israel too for their technological contributions and overlook their atrocities. Because without tyrants, our world would be nothing, right? No one gets to the top and stays at the top without hurting a lot of people. Remember that.

I hope people appreciate that this isn't one of those stuffy tech forums where they keep it professional and technical. It's cool talking shop. but this is also a hobby, and hobbies should be fun.

On topic: I don't like that AMD was probably responsible for Nvidia and Intel upscaling not being day one. Even if it was the devs decision, still not okay. PC gaming should be inclusive not exclusive. I'd buy a console if I wanted that.

Yeah. There were other things they could do to make their competitors look bad. Like enable Ultra textures by default on their GPUs with more than 8GB RAM or other quality enhancing tweaks utilizing more VRAM.

Working with the developers closely to understand how their engine works and working with them to introduce certain pathways for the things AMD GPUs excel at and capitalizing on those advantages. Even using hybrid raytracing for their GPUs and turning on full raytracing for their competitors. That last one would be kinda evil but hey, it's not like Jensen would cut them some slack for having weaker raytracing units.

And if AMD GPUs are detected with AMD CPUs, make them run even better together. Show gamers what the AMD advantage really is.

AMD really needs to slap a "Powered by AMD Radeon Graphics" sticker on every console Sony/MS sold. That might send a message. I'd bet Sony/MS wouldn't allow it and AMD needed them more back then. Times have changed though.

Someone tell me if they already do that. I haven't any recent consoles. Only the N64 occasionally.

Hmmm, that might not be perceived in the best light either. PC Gamers look down on "console peasants" to begin with so if AMD wants to market to that same demographic, it's probably best not to be overly obvious about how modern MS/Sony consoles are powered by AMD. For regular average people who are in the market for a console, it's not the underlying hardware that motivates them to buy the console, so what's the point in AMD spending money on a marketing campaign that tells them such?

I wasn't really thinking about PCMR people. Most of them probably already know consoles use Zen/Radeon. But more gamers buy consoles then build/buy rigs. If they decided they wanted to join the the PC gaming market that might make them think to get a Radeon rather then going Nvidia pretty much by default. Just my $0.02. Might not have an effect at all given how big and popular Nvidia is, plus they have DLSS!

Hey, he's also enabling the wholesale theft of IP (which I'm mixed on, as a good amount of copyright is BS and controlled by other scummy corporations) so corporations can shove AI into everything to tout to investors that don't understand anything but line goes up!

Sheesh, its sad when people are openly calling for people to "respect" a CEO that openly doesn't respect them. ("The more you spend the more you save!")

I really worry about people demanding we respect these people. Considering many techbros are starting to argue that any attempt to slow development of AI constitutes murder. Not even making that up, they're even posting manifestos proclaiming such. And they're tying it to capitalism (which is failing spectacularly right in front of our eyes), as supposedly the means by which it will keep AI in check.

We believe any deceleration of AI will cost lives. Deaths that were preventable by the AI that was prevented from existing is a form of murder.

That thing is so full of so much problematic thoughts I can't even fathom someone thinking that posting any manifesto like that is anything but unhinged. And the guy that wrote it is a major source of funding silicon valley.

And the way he at the end lists a bunch of people as though they signed onto his manifesto is just gross.

Wii was little more than an overclocked Gamecube really, a very successful refresh (with clever use of relatively cheap technology).

The ATi logo was never replaced with the AMD logo even though Wii was launched (November 2006) after ATi was already bought by AMD (October 2006). So I guess the logo being on there was part of Nintendo's contract with ATi whereas AMD no longer insisted on it (Wii U was technologically a vastly expanded GC/Wii, but didn't contain any mention of ATi nor AMD). Same seems to be the case today with PS, Xbox as well as Nvidia's Switch. Or even Steam Deck.

I also suspect both Sony and MS are very insistent on not having their consoles seen as "Gamer PCs". Sony has gone to great lengths to ensure folks can't homebrew a linux distro or even use a keyboard and mouse, and if I'm not mistaken MS hasn't been as hostile but also seems very intent on differentiating the Xbox from "just another PC".

Slapping a major PC component vendor name on the box or at start-up would punch a huge hole in that narrative. Additionally, AMD's custom division sees Sony/MS as their customers, not the people that buy Playstations and Xboxes, and likely doesn't really give a hoot about the discreet card division outside of the R&D and tech.

Latest Starfield beta update includes Xess & FSR3 FG!

The addition of Xess is a huge win. The Arc cards underperform in this title so enabling Xess XMX will be a big benefit. For those that own Radeon cards Xess DP4A is pretty great and worth checking out.

Back with a new update for some faux outrage folks. 🤣 Start sharpening those pitchforks!

Nightingale does not have FSR support. It is an Intel sponsored game. It shows the Core and ARC logos and you get a slightly updated version of the old school Intel jingle. It's pretty cool; I waxed nostalgic. TSR produces about the image quality FSR does in most games, so no big loss. And the game still offers me 2 upscalers for my 7800XT to use. XeSS UQ is superior to TSR, but hail during hail storms ghosts badly, and some animal fur is janky looking. Other than that it does a great job. And when I am not killing wolves or watching the hail, it provides a stable image where I can't tell it is upscaled without really trying to find something.

But that isn't what's important. What's important is that another vendor sponsored the game and left my vendor out! :p It's feels ridiculous just typing it. How dare a sponsored game focus on the company that paid them!

I can't even...it's so silly.

And yes, Starfield with official XeSS support is so much better than any other way I've played it on ARC. It sucks it took months, but AMD sponsored the game, and that's how it has always worked. ;) But don't let that get in the way of some manufactured outrage.
