NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 Official MSRP Will Be $299 US
The news was broke by one of our most trusted sources who revealed that NVIDIA’s second best Maxwell offering in the GeForce 900 series will retail for just $299 US. The source didn’t reveal the exact MSRP for the GTX 980 but told that it could be anywhere around $449 up to $499 US. But the pricing for the GeForce GTX 970 is more or les confirmed and that’s really good news for the entire PC gaming community. I am pretty sure NVIDIA will have a deal or two on their upcoming cards which might add even more value such as a bundle for Borderlands: The Pre Sequel or Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt which will entice users even more to migrate towards the green team.

Pretty good if true, if the 970 if roughly a 780, but i would be more interested if it makes a 290 (or its sequel) dirt cheap in response

If this is true it would be the first time in a while that Nvidia started a price war. Especially considering they are going to be out first, usually when this occurs they take advantage until AMD responds. Now I definitely have to hold off on buying 2 290s to replace my 670s.

there is a good bit of gap in between specs too, if we are lucky we may see a 970ti or something with one or two more parts enabled and competitively priced later on down the road. My first DIY build was with a GTX 260 "core 216" when nvidia was neck and neck priced vs the 4890/70 at the time. Maybe I'm imagining things but seems like in those days they #60 series was a lot closer to high end then the larger gap there is now.

I wonder if perhaps there will be two versions of the GTX 970. One with the short PCB for small form factor systems at $299, and another with the full size PCB, better cooling, higher clocks at a higher price point.

If it's really only competing with the 290 then that's a reasonable price. I'll believe it when I see it since I expect gouging. So far prices are going from $300-650 for the 970/80. It's the typical speculation mayhem.

Pricing rumours are all over the map from $449 to $599 for 980 and $299-399 for 970. I am going to say $399 for 970 and $549 for 980. If NV delivers 970 at $299 I will be seriously impressed but I don't see that happening. NV is more likely to milk profit margins until AMD has R9 300 series.

If 970 is $299, even if NV sells 980 for $499, it would make so much more sense to buy 2x 970s for only $100 more, which as Lepton87 said makes me question this rumor.

at $299, if it competes with the GTX 780, color me impressed. I would definitely consider this card at this price. Will Nvidia give us an overall winner? I wouldn't hold my breath. Or should I? :hmm:

That is a good starting price, would hope to see it drop to $250 in 4-5 months as well due to competition from AMD.

If its $400 though its going to be a terrible card, pretty much worthless for the price.

I sure hope its $300, but I don't trust Nvidia one bit, they've proven they are extremely greedy and disregarding of their customers, who they think are all stupid zombies who will buy every crap they serve.

299 sounds very low for any GTXx70 named card in history. I don't think I can name one x70 card that launched under 399 bucks with the exception of the GTX570 refresh (349?). So don't get your hopes up. This "reliable" source could just be a way to get peoples hopes up and disappointed when the higher price hits. Just for your own intelligent information, you should probably rely on past x70 launches as an indicator for the launch price of the 970. I could be wrong, but history says I'm not. Just FYI. Don't be gullible folks.

If it does go on sale for $299 it will be probably be HD 5870/290X all over again where you're only able to buy it at that price for the first week or so, after which supply falls behind demand and the retailers start price gouging.
