[wccftech] G-Sync for ASUS monitors only...others Q3 2014

Money talks. No telling what ASUS ponied up to get that since other brands have signed on as well.
 
Unfortunate if true. With zero competition Asus will price them sky high. Then Q3 2014 for more options from the other three mentioned vendors ?

At this rate it will be 2015 by the time we maybe get to see this tech make its way into monitors actually worth buying that use IPS/PLS panels. What is the hold up? Most would already balk at having to buy a new monitor, even less chance of adoption without providing decent options, never mind just one option....
 
Yeah I thought this was the big counter to Mantle...the must have tech..least that was getting some here all giddy a day or so ago.:|

Or what Nvidia paid Asus.

Q3 2014 is a long sit. Someone might get the luminous idea to create something similar but make it work with any platform.

G-Sync and Mantle is 2 different things. And G-Sync, unlike Mantle, can be made avaliable on all cards.

Also more sources needed before I would say Asus only. wccftech is just another spam site.

They've already said the Asus VG248QE will be $399 at release ($100 over the non G-sync version now). I assume the rest of their G-sync monitors will be $100 more as well.
 
I'm leery of any nvidia exclusives after the fail that was 3d vision. It was a novelty that wore off and didn't help the fact they didn't support it. I'll believe the gsync hype when I see it's proven success over the course of at least a year.

3D Vision is still supported and doing well. Perhaps it is not talked about as much anymore, but there are a lot of people who still use it. Many of the biggest releases have built in support as well (Crysis 2 & 3, BF3 & 4, Metro 2033 and LL, Tomb Raider). I still use it, and find more and more support, especially if you also include the Helix mod community.

That said, G-sync has a wider appeal than 3D Vision.
 
Yeah $400 for a low budget, low resolution TN monitor and that possibly being the only option. These days you can get a 1440p IPS for just $100 more... Too bad.

I think they jumped to announce this sooner than planned as a reactionary move against AMD's announcements of Mantle and new GPU releases. Nothing all in one till next year, possibly just one model for the bulk of next year and nothing about getting it into a decent monitor with good IQ.

It is sounding like a good year and a half to two years until this will be relevant enough to provide consumers any decent choices. Also the proprietary insistence may kill this off and send it the way of GPU physx.

Hopefully someone does something to accelerate a real roll out of this tech so we can buy a monitor worth buying with gsync support before 2015....

You're wrong on this one. G-sync is nvidia only, this was stated at their Montreal event IIRC. They were more or less asked on stage whether it would work on other GPUs and a direct 'no' was the answer. That's perfectly okay, too, nvidia spent tons of R+D on this technology and aren't giving it away for free. Why should they?

It's another value added feature for Geforce and requires a Geforce GPU. Which is fine. It's their tech that they developed, spent R+D on, and it's their prerogative what happens with it. As such they're not giving it away. They MIGHT license it, but not giving it away for free. It's also not part of the displayport specification although it requires a DP monitor.

My concern as others have mentioned is basically getting this tech onto IPS panels 1440p or greater as that is my preference as opposed to TN. We'll see.

Go watch the nvidia stream yourself , ITS on twitch. I watched the gsync portion live and they said it WILL NOT work on non NV GPUs. Like I said i'm okay with this being nv only. They paid for the technology. Nvidia paid for the R+D therefore it is nvidia's property and nvidia exclusive. Again, It's fine. There is absolutely no wrong in it being NV exclusive.

In the mean time, stop spreading false information. You are WRONG on this.
 
It may be that Gsync will become more open, and it sounded like that is what they want by some news, but it will be Nvidia only at first. Which is fine by me. At least it is getting the ball rolling for a much needed tech change.

Exactly. It's fine for it to be Geforce only - NVIDIA PAID for the R+D. Why would they give it away? That's stupid.

This may lead to a ubiquitous technology that is similar, but as far as g-sync it is geforce only. And that's perfectly fine with me.

Also there is nothing nVidia specific since they just manipulate the v-blank signal in the displayport.
 
Go watch the stream on twitch. It requires a Geforce and won't work on another GPU whether that other GPU has DP or not. Period. You're too stubborn to admit you're wrong, though. I'll just bow out of this thread because in your head you're always right. Even when you're wrong. And make no mistake, you are wrong on this. You could easily verify this by watching the stream which should be saved on twitch. I saw it live. Obviously you didn't.

As I said there is nothing wrong with it being Geforce exclusive. Nvidia paid for the R+D, therefore it should be theirs to do whatever they want to with it.

I'm tired of monitors always having huge trade offs. IPS or 120hz. TN or no-gsync. I wish we could get someone to make a 120hz IPS Gsync monitor. I'd pay handsomely for it.

No, no way Nvidia paid Asus for this. There is no reason for Nvidia to do that. There is nothing for them to gain. Asus realizes the potential to this tech and wanted to be the first to try to gain more market penetration.
