Not 8 Hi HBM1 [not in the spec AFAIK], but 8 stacks of 4 Hi HBM1. The number of stacks is no limit, The limit is how many die you can stack vertically, which is 4 memory die +1 logic.

I just don't think it makes as much sense for AMD to launch a GPU at literally the same time. If time on stage is limited, and I assume it is, I would expect E3 to be focused exclusively on games and devs using AMD GPUs and not at all on the GPU launch.

I don't know why youre acting like this is an open question.

AMD and PCGamer magazine have already publicly stated they're holding a special PC Gaming focused booth/event thing at E3 this year. It's not an open question at all. http://www.pcgamingshow.com/

lol nothing in this entire thread is an open question. Nobody here has any control over anything. I'm just stating my opinion.

Also pretty sure you misinterpreted what I was saying because I clearly stated that I think it makes tons of sense for devs to show off their work on an AMD GPU at E3.

With all the wild rumours, crazy speculations and what seems to be a leak free ship, as nothing can be confirmed. This is going to be the greatest thing ever, or the biggest disappointment ever. There is no middle ground available.

I hope they unveil this stuff at Computex. E3 is.. too far away.

Because no one will watch computex at all. Sorry, I mean ok, maybe us gaming nerds will, maybe tech nerds will post about it, but amd is trying to hit the mainstream gamer who will definitely hear more bout e3 than computex. It's a good move from amd to realize they need to do things differently and market far more broadly if they want to stay in the game.

Also it's far harder for amd to convince devs to use their unreleased new gpu on an unreleased new game that the dev hasn't tested yet on that gpu. That suggestion that amd should get devs to use their products to show off their name pc games makes little sense. Devs will show off their games on the hardware they've been using and know work rather than risk a game not working due to tons of new variables.

By the time this card hits I'll have a couple of paychecks from my new job to get 1 new Super high end card. Heh who am I kidding I can get one now, I don't spend money at all anymore.

Think of graphics performance as heart, and cost of the card is like income. The revolution is bringing the costs down to the masses and maintaining the super high performance of the nvid.. bourgeoise! :awe:

I thought that was the point and why AMD was getting PC devs on board with the show at E3. I dunno maybe I just completely misunderstood. That's been known to happen.

There is no question as to whether AMD is having an event at E3. It's already been publicly announced and advertised. Whether they release a card there or not is the question. Just being clear

Just my opinion based on amd. I don't think they'd have the foresight to get devs on board far earlier to ensure games worked. On top of that it's a brand new fiji card and we're expecting devs to get their new unreleased unfinished gamed working on unreleased amd hardware? We can barely get new games to run on amd hardware sometimes lol(over exaggeration but you know what I mean).

I think e3 is a good release because quite frankly every other show for hardware isn't focused on the groups of people amd need to convince. Imo, we see maybe 1-2 games running on it and it'll look amazing. It's to amds own best interest anyway to only show off a game or two that look so stupidly stunning visually then just leave it at that.

I' think nvidia would have used e3 too if they needed to and won't be surprised if we see them ramp up their e3 presence next year. This is the highest expenditure to return that I can think of for amd right now. The only thing I would also do in their position is give away $20k+ of their hardware to prominent streamers and YouTube reviewers and try and convert the social media voices over to their brand.

Is this not thread crapping? They're spending big money on advertising with developers at E3, doing something big(hopefully) at Computex. They're advertising! Any kind is good considering their current position.
 
390X not fiji?

It appears that AMD's Fiji GPU based flagship graphics card might not be called Radeon R9 390X but rather have a different naming scheme as the R9 390X has been spotted as a Hawaii GPU rebrand with 8GB of GDDR5 memory.

AMD has already announced its full Radeon R300 series graphics cards for OEMs and since most them are just rebrands, it is quite obvious that there will be plenty of rebrands, based on Hawaii, Tonga and Bonaire GPUs in the consumer market as well. While most of these GPUs will be somewhat improved, the only new GPU will be the 28nm Fiji GPU with High Bandwidth Memory.

The recent report from Wccftech.com, showing information coming from ASUS' forums, listing couple of Radeon 300 series graphics cards, suggest that R9 390X naming will indeed be reserved for Hawaii GPU rebrand with 8GB of GDDR5 memory. On the other hand, it is still possible that AMD will have two versions of the Fiji GPU based graphics card, one with 4GB HBM and other with 8GB of GDDR5 memory.

There have been plenty reports that AMD will use a naming scheme that is similar to Nvidia's Geforce Titan for its flagship Fiji GPU based graphics card and judging from this info, it appears that this just might be true.

As you already know, AMD also has a Tonga XT GPU ready with 2048 Stream Processor which could end up to be the R9 380X, while R9 380 will be reserved for standard Tonga Pro GPU rebrand with 2GB of GDDR5 memory on a 256-bit memory interface. The rest of the listed lineup will include, what is believed to be a Pitcairn GPU based R9 370 and Bonaire based R7 360X and R7 360 graphics cards.

There are still quite a few unknowns regarding AMD's upcoming Radeon R300 series graphics cards, including the price, but the entire lineup will not be that interesting interesting since the Fiji GPU will be the only new GPU while the rest of the lineup will be based on rebrands, something that we wrote about quite a long time ago.

Maybe. But imo why? There will be more Posts about upcoming e3 by gamers than there will be talk about computex. I just don't see computex being that important to the market of people that amd needs to reach

It's more of a teaser than an advertisement for a specific card too. It looks cool though. It's probably more of a PR move than anything else, as that's the new sign powered by FirePro cards that AMD has been going on about.

Could be that the games AMD plans on showing off alongside the card announcement won't be formally announced until E3 or something. So it's a timing thing.

This thread is about a leak; I'm suggesting that perhaps advertising a videocard isn't going to mean much to people outside of the few percent of people who even know what a videocard is. AMD should instead be showing off something meaningful is my point.

I don't think it's thread crapping.
