If you have a creek to wet the sock with why wouldn't you just leave the beer in the creek???
Ways to Cool Beers Without a Fridge
It's been a while since i've taken my thermo classes, but the evaporation of the water off the sock actually provides additional cooling

What if the stream is flowing? Lots more heat removed.
Next time my car's engine overheats, I'm going to wrap it in a wet towel.
When I need to cool something quickly I just open the kitchen door and stick it in the snow. There's a short 2-3 month period of the year (called summer) where this does not work though.

I remember seeing a pic or reading a story somewhere on the internet: back then before the invention of double and triple glass, they just built 2 windows one before the other, leaving a space in the middle corresponding to the wall's thickness. That's the perfect spot. That way it doesn't freeze too much but it stays cold. This! We went on a ski trip to Breck two years ago - b/t 10 of us we bought some 50 bottles of beer/wine. Just left it on the deck in the snow vs hogging fridge space. After about 4 days a few bottles busted from freezing![]()
