Wayne Rooney's metatarcel

For those of you who are unaware of the situation, the fate of the whole world rests on the feet of one man - Wayne Rooney. If England do not win the world cup this time, Englishmen everywhere will fail to turn up for work for months on end, dragging Britain and all of western Europe into recession and severely damaging the entire world economy.

The foot scan is complete, and we are only hours (minutes?!?) away from results. Post any pre-press-conference predicions and post-conference expressions of joy/sadness here!

I'm anxiously awaiting the results - really hope he'll be cleared to play from 2nd round onwards but have my doubts it will have healed enough 🙁

What really worries me is a dodgy decision to let him play too soon. What if someone decides a well-placed foul tackle is the best way deal with him?...

that is a worry - if he plays in the second round then that is either the 24th or 25th of June so almost 2 months from the date of the injury. Hopefully he will do some impact training with England before then to determine if he's ok in tackles etc.

bump for England

apparently it may not be till later this evening or even tomorrow before the results are announced 🙁

Dammit. I'll resurrect this thread when it happens.

could be earlier though - Sky TV reckon about 7 or 8pm this evening.

Watching sky news 1 now, tagline is "rooney expected to return to hospital...", looks like security is already there waiting for him.

/Edit, spherrod: are we really the only England fans here?

Beckham was rushed back from the same type of injury before the last WC and had an overall dismal showing.

Being in-shape and game-shape are two different things. I certainly hope that Rooney has a good MRI and subsequent WC; he has youth on his side for a swift recovery.

True, he will take a while to get proper match fitness - my hope would be a subs role from the 2nd round onwards and if he's given the go ahead to join full training then he should be in reasonable shape. He has the kind of talent that can turn a game on it's head and I'd love to see him on the world stage.

Regarding Beckham I seem to think he was actually in plaster for a lot longer so Rooney may be a lot closer to fitness than he was in 2002.

Nah, I think there are a few more. I'll be flying my St. George's Cross, right below the Stars and Bars. (I turned in my British passport a long time ago.)

 I can't wait for the tournament to start 😀

I think Steven Gerrard doing well(as well as he does for Liverpool) is far more important to England than Rooney being fit or not

If England are to win the World Cup (or get close) then I think they need both playing well. Hopefully Gerrard will carry on his Liverpool form as he's a vital part of the team

Yeh thats true, England have a killer midfield though, perfect setup men. hopefully they can play together as a unit, if they do they have as good a shot as any.

That's always been the problem, getting them to play as a unit - Gerrard and Lampard both love to get forward so against a good team our defence may be exposed. I'd have liked to see Hargreaves played in a defensive role more in some of the warm up games as he is excellent there for Bayern Munich

You can help heal Rooney!

I can imagine the debate behind closed doors if the scan is showing borderline results...

Yeah, Man United will not want him to go if there's the slightest risk whereas England want him there even if he could only play in the final (assuming England even get there). May well come down to an independent specialist - I would not like to be responsible for that decision!
