The wizards of Tolkien's world are angelic beings who appear to use innate abilities. Gandalf is no more a sorcerer (in the Harry Potter sense) than is the Balrog.

Once again you have failed to address the argument.

Argument (YOU): Harry Potter is bad because it demonstrates that magic can be used for both good and evil.
Counter-argument (ME): In LOTR, one wizard uses magic for good, the other uses it for evil.
Rebuttal (YOU): ...but you're wrong...

Further, You still seem to think that someone in the Harry Potter world can just sign up at Hogwart's and become a wizard. YOU CAN'T. You are either a Muggle or you are not. Harry Potter and his cohorts are ALSO using innate abilities.

There is a tremendous difference. The wizards of Tolkien's world are angelic beings who appear to use innate abilities. Gandalf is no more a sorcerer (in the Harry Potter sense) than is the Balrog.

Using the term angelic here is not really correct. They are the maija (hope I spelled that wrong) and can be angelic or demonic or chaotic in nature. If someone who has recently read the salmarilian posted, I'm sure they could give you a much better description. They arn't angelic though and much closer to humans than you are giving them credit for. Not that that matters in regards to your original argument against magic being inherently evil. They are using magic and that fact you cannot argue.

Why are you arguing with "JupiterJones" when he seems to be caught up in whatever propaganda his church preaches.

Why do we do it? Because we like to pick fights. Without a good flame war every once in a while, OT gets boring.

Heh, but arguing with him is like futilely beating your head against a brick wall in hopes of breaking the wall.
