My favorite scene is when comedian and night owl are trying to put down a riot and comedian lays the smackdown on EVERYONE.

Some people just can't think non-linearly apparently. If you talk about the future and then talk about the past that led up to that future, their brain shorts out. That's the only explanations I can think of as to why a considerable number of people think this. OP, have you seen memento? I bet that would fuck you up royally. 😛

I should also point out that this seems especially prevalent in the previous generation (I'm 21). My friends and I had no trouble whatsoever following the plot, and I have yet to find someone in my age bracket that does.

Memento is a tough movie for most anyone, until you watch it again and you go... "ohhhh, I get it now!". That's how I was. That's an amazing movie.

Donnie Darko is a similar experiment with screwing around with time, at least once you watch the whole movie and start wandering what it all meant.

And with the age bracket thing... you might be on to something there. Our generation is the one with the best ability for multi-tasking. Others have acquired the ability, either through personal means or due to work, but since our generation was young we've basically put ourselves in situations where to do what we want and accomplish what we need to, something our generation feels is important (the do what we want part 😛), it's like an innate ability, though still many do not have that, or think they do but get screwed when they find they are terrible multi-taskers.

I understood the movie 100%. I hated it 100% One doesn't have to not understand the movie to dislike it.

That's an entirely different topic. Once its understood, personal opinion is completely acceptable. Even the best movies (according to the general public at large) will still be disliked by some people. We're okay with that... for the most part. 😉

you might want to rethink who you want to call a dumbass, dumbass. he said nothing about following "our timeline". he said that it switched around timelines, meaning that things didn't happen in a chronological order.

did you actually SEE the movie??

it happened in a perfectly chronological order... except where these plot devices, which are called FLASHBACKS, occurred.

The Movie however DID NOT occur in our timeline... at least i don't think Richard Nixon was ever elected president 4 times, and i don't think we won vietnam...

i haven't seen it but i have heard from several people at work who have that it is doesn't make sense in a lot of places because the order in which it is displayed.

A quick look at the reviews on RottenTomatoes says that it is really confusing, even to people who liked it.

i still don't get why you keep talking about our timeline and the references to harry potter.

i'm done though because you seem to have this major hard on for the movie and/or for arguing with people.

I didn't like this movie either. It was just ok.

Everytime I watch that movie, I wish I had a blue penis. That would freaking pwn.
There are ways to do this yourself... The word choking comes to mind.

So does it follow the graphic novel pretty closely? The trailer seemed spot on. If so, I can't imagine not liking it.

It follows it extremely closely, but it only touches on the major points. They altered the specifics of the ending a little (no psychic aliens were involved). Same result/timeline though.

Saw the movie in the theaters, bought the DVD on friday, just watched it this afternoon. Neither I or the wife had any trouble following it, and thought it was very good. Picked up on a little more this time through than when watched for the first time in the theather. And we have not ever even picked up any of the graphic novels.

I enjoyed it - nothing too awesome, but an above average movie with some seriously flawed "heroes."

this.

Roschach (sp)? was the most interesting character.

The best moment of the film, was when he was in prison, and someone said to him : "You're locked in here with us now!" to which he replied :

"YOU'RE LOCKED IN HERE WITH MEEEE!!!!"

After boiling someone's skin off.

Win 🙂

Yeah, but when Rorschach was about to be captured and he panicked like he did - that was.. weird. Totally showed a different side of his character. He always seemed confident and was in control, but when things didn't quite go according to plan, he freaked. But then he regained himself and fucked-up some prisoners - lol.

He freaked, but he still stayed in control, fucking up police officers. He knew he was trapped and got royally pissed.

He freaked because he walked into an obvious trap, and was pissed at himself for not seing it earlier.

I give it a 9/10. It had the same Tennyson / "Ulysses" vibe as Miller's Dark Knight for both the older and younger retired heroes, a well-crafted alternate history with Nixon around to fight the Cold War (shades of Dr. Strangelove), an interesting plot that made perfect sense.

It's a movie for older viewers than Batman or Spider-man. Many teen viewers probably won't emphasize with a 36-year-old Nite Owl feeling a bit lost in his forced retirement, or get the mix of emotions as he and Silk Spectre break the rules to dispense vigilante justice again.

I didn't particularly care for the movie. In fact, no one in my family liked it and they've all read and liked the graphic novel.
I enjoyed the scenery and set, very impressive on Blu-Ray, but the 3+ hour movie was not very gripping and the director seemed more focused on the set look and feel rather than the acting.

I couldn't even finish half this movie. . .

Glad I rented it at a redbox.

I managed to finish it myself but yeah, it wasn't great. While I was watching I kept thinking that the actual graphic novel must be completely different, because the movie was just boring crap.

Well, yeah.

The point was, he always demonstrated he was a cool, think-on-his-feet character who never got wound up, but that was only a facade - he was that way only because he carefully planned everything he did and considered the all potential ways things could go wrong. But that *one* time he didn't consider the possibility that he was being set up (by the smartest man in the world, of course) and he had a moment of sheer panic before he adapted.

I don't know if that was in the comic, but that was a huge bit of character development.

Awesome movie
I thought so too. But without the paralleling story of the Black Freighter to as the writer stated-
the story of The Black Freighter ends up specifically describing "the story of Adrian Veidt" and that it can also be used as a counterpoint to other parts of the story, such as Rorschach's capture and Dr. Manhattan's self-exile on Mars
And all of the events/ clues leading up to how Veidt really tricked the world, a lot of the depth/skillfully executed story arc, was lost.

That would have just made it even more boring for the average viewer though, I suppose.

I wasn't a fan of the movie either. I "got it" and understood what was going on, and the twist was ok, but overall it just didn't do it for me.
There were good parts here and there with alot of boredom in between.
