watching the fast and the furious as we speak-

why do all these "10 second cars" seem to take like 30-40 seconds during the racing scenes? I've seen the movie a few times and that is one thing that bugs me above all else about this movie.

<< why do all these "10 second cars" seem to take like 30-40 seconds during the racing scenes? >>

because the actual street racing scene is filmed on a mile long track. actually it seems that way

If the goal is to see a REAL car in that movie, you'll need to fast forward to about 3/4's through. Look for a big black thing that was roaming the roads before most of you were born.

since you're watching it, please tell me the plot, i just dont get it

FBI has this guy look into some stolen electronics, guy joins race gang, guy nails some asian guys, eh?

and another thing- if the street racers in this movie are supposed to be really concerned about speed-- and not just average rice-boys- why do they weigh down there car with so much crap like stereo's and neon lights and crap like that.

i keep telling myself its just a movie.... its so frustrating though. cant writers even pretend to be realistic sometimes?

The plot is How many tin-can econo ricemobiles can we fit in one boring movie.

Mmm, the Supra is a real car too. And the Ferrari the Supra races.

Other than that it's got more rice than a chinese buffet.

Viper GTS

One other thing I don't get... When they have the first race (I think... I watched it a while ago), when the main guy loses his car, why does the big dude tell him that he should be double clutching? I'm pretty sure that's used only for big rigs and I think drag racers would have a slap shifter...

Hear, hear.

I did however like the Supra, and the Nissan Skyline (that got no time at all). But in large part the cars they had were pretty sad. The civics? Come on...

That bothers me too. They go and talk about saving 2 pounds with some piece of carbon fiber whatchamacallit and then put in hydrolics, a highend stereo, and all that other crap. Even worse than that is that the guy blew his engine (cracked the head i think, maybe threw a rod, don't remember) and proceeded to outrun the cops for a good while longer. And with that actual nice car at the end that supossedly had so much power that it worped the frame why did the guy put in some sort of bracing. Also, wouldn't it still be warped and drive very croked?

Dom said that the rings were shot, and so was the headgasket. The head blowing and throwing a rod would be your inference.

But still, the movie is a B movie...too many errors, but enjoyable anyhow, to me at least.

Because none of those cars are as fast as they say. If you go to their website it says plain as day what those cares run IRL. The Charger is a bonafide 9 second car I think, the Supra a 12 second, the Eclipse a (pathetic) 14 second car.

It was so popular at the time...god knows why...

Who cares if it was unrealistic and whatever.

It was fun and cool to watch.... i dont think the plot and realism were ephaised anyway

Haha if it were real, then the movie would have been 99% domestics with the side of rice. When it comes to drag racing, very few imports have what it takes to keep up with some highly modified domestics.
