Watching Dog the Bounty hunter

Been watching Dog the bounty hunter on A&E and was wondering exactly how "far" they can go legally. They Don't seem to be carrying gun...can they? What can they do to protect/carry out their profession?

Intimidation seems to be the #1 tool..........

They have to be packing something. They are going after dangerous individuals, and from what I've seen of the show the intimidation usually does the job. It's not gonna help at all if the people you're going after are shooting at you. I think I remember them wearing bulletproof vests also. They have to expect the worst I'm assuming.

His oldest son and his nephew aren't intimidating-looking at all.

They use lots and lots of mace (mase?). They carry it in a huge canister on their leg. When they wip it out and point it at people I'm sure people automatically think it's a gun...though it doesn't look like one.

And yeah, I've been watching it for the past 3-4 hours.

edit: apparently justin has an empty mace gun 😛

Yeah, I've only watched it a couple of times. Mase can be effective, but not against a gun. I have seen some good episodes of Cops where they had the Taser gun. Those are incredible. If I recall correctly, it sends 50,000 volts through them, and the officer can continue applying it if the suspect doesn't comply. I would think that would have a better chance against firepower.

Yeah, I saw it too. I also saw that episode where the people start attacking them with brooms and sh1t and Dog maced the sh1t out of 1 guy 😀

EDIT: He just carries that big thing of mace.

He says that, but the REAL reason he doesn't carry a gun is because he isn't allowed to. Know why? HE'S A CONVICTED FELON. Every time I see him with his little store-bought badge and his OC canister I laugh.

Civilians can't purchase the version of the Taser that we carry.

Is it me or does the US have no jurisdiction, which explains why they couldn't pursue a fugitive into Mexico? Bad example to back him up. If he contiues to go after criminals, especially ones that aren't disuaded by some crappy mace he uses, he's going to wind up with 2 bullets in his head.

sure cops have no jurisdiction. But he was on the FBI's list. Where they could go down and get him with the help of the mexico goverment. Wich the FBI was on the way to get luster but DOG got there before they did.

Though i remember watching a report on 20/20 or maybe 60 minutes about bounty hunters. There is really no goverment control over them. They can go wherever they need to and do what they feel they need have to get the guy. Even entering a house etc.

Dog probably got there because he didn't have to go through all the channels that the FBI and Mexican Government went through. When you have no red tape to cut through, you should be a lot faster getting things done.

For Bounty Hunters it all varies by state law, and it is illegal to be a bounty hunter in Mexico.

I give the guy credit for what he's done, but if he keeps on going in this line of work, eventually he's going to wind up in a body bag.

Thats priceless. 😀

I'm not going to laugh at the guy though. No matter how you look at it his record speaks for itself.

On the show he's said numerous times when he's entering a house that he has a warrant....which I highly doubt he does. It would take a while to get a warrant to enter a house, and in some episodes he seems to enter numerous houses a day. 😕

Also, can someone explain to me how bail works? I don't see how all these people they run after could have posted their $5,000-$15,000 bail. Does all that have to be paid up front? What does it go towards? Does the government use it as a "bounty" on your head if you don't show up for court?

Because he operates out of Hawaii it would be nnearly impossible for Dog or his crew to carry firearms. COnsequence of living in the state with the most liberal firearm laws...

He does have a warrant... a warrant for the fugitive. That's all he needs. US law allows licensed bounty hunters to kick in any door in America (or at least whatever state the warrant is issued in) if they feel the fugitive could be behind the door.

Edit- according to the above site, they don't even need a warrant for the fugitive.

Slight correction to your edit. The fugitive already has a warrant if these guys are looking for him/her. The site you referenced is saying they don't also need a warrant to enter the residence.

The majority of his "bounty hunting" is because his wife owns a bail bond business. They're hunting these guys down so they can get their money.
