Banned for 1 day. His sig has been asking us to ban him for 2 years.

the system of public accountability starts now and is not retroactive. there's no need to dig up the past and start pointing fingers or questioning actions.

moderation done under the old system was by a completely different set of rules and under a completely different set of circumstances.

there should also be no reason to hold a grudge unless it's against AnandTech HQ -- you don't know what mod did what to who, but you can know that their actions were all defined by what we wanted and fully supported by us.

we've decided to change the way things have been done. whats in the past doesn't need to be part of what will be in our future. let's let it stay there.

Actually it doesn't cloud my view of the vast majority of peeps here.I am using this thread as an opportunity to express my feelings about events that happened under our old moderator system,after today and this thread I will speak no more of it.Being able to simply be another member and to vent,to air my feelings has been very helpful and goes a long way in restoring my faith in these boards

So, why would some still be allowed to create another account and use it? If all mods are to be known and we would get banned for creating another account? I am just asking because you stated after this thread you wouldn't speak freely?

Of course we all knew you and Red were mods from that fiasco that happened on another fourum long ago......

I have been here since 1998 and really like this place as well. I just hope this new change doesn't lead to stupid fights and hard feelings. I would hate to see AT go the way of AGN.

I can only see the harassment of the mods increasing from this decision. Many of them have a lot of history here, good and bad. Many of their so called "victims" will resent them and attempt to bait them now that they can be held accountable by the community.

I am not an involved person on this board, never have been. I have no personal friends here and never get involved with the BS events that tag along with it, but I feel this is heading in a bad direction. I would not be surprised in seeing a couple of the mods just give up as they will see nothing but a steady stream of animosity directed towards them.

I'm not holding a grudge at all, it just struck me as odd.

I wasn't banned for 1 day, I had to ask to be allowed back 2 weeks later.

The comment in my sig was a mocking reference to all of the Unban <insert member name> comments you see in people's sigs.

Seemed like a silly reason to ban someone (apparently indefinitely)

This forum just has too much history to try and mediate every perceived slight from the past decade. In any case, going forward, hopefully this new system will manage to have its intended effect -- bridging the gap between the mods and the rest of us.

I intend to be myself,what I meant is that I will not speak of the way things were done under the old system.Having a chance to talk about how I've been feeling is enough and I loook forward to being able to turn my sights forward to a renewed AnandTech, we have a contests and sweeps board now and I want to be active there,to see our members be able to join me in winning a lot of stuff

Just know that I will abide by the rules

1.I will not moderate a thread I'm active in

2.I will make it very clear during moderator discussions if I hold a bias against any member who decsions are being made about and have no problem in refraining from being
involved in debate/decision making regarding such a member

Maybe, but then again misguided animosity isn't necessarily something we need a lot of around here. If this decision has negative effects with disgruntled posters, so what? If they have a legitimate complaint I'm sure it will be taken care of, but if they just lost their pacifier for a second then we all just have to put up with a little more whining. Moderators have thick skin, and I'm sure they're aware of their new accountability. At least now there won't be any finger pointing.

We can only sit back and see how this works out.

That is cool, but I guess my questions will remain unanswered and that is fine. I just feel that saying all mods will be known, but yet others being able to hide behind another identity is wrong. Does that mean I can create another identity and start all over? I highly doubt it, but it is not my choice to make. I read a ton more posts than I create as can be seen in my 1999 join date and my post count. And no, I don't want to be banned and only able to read posts, I do like making comments sometimes.
