Technically the code of etiquette regarding the american flag is federal law, but the Supreme Court has ruled that actual enforcement of it does infringe upon the right to free speech.

Seatbelts are required by law too, but that doesn't mean Marines can chase down people who aren't wearing them and assault them.

It's still a symbol of what is more important than itself.

When people join the military they don't swear an oath to protect the flag against all enemies foreign and domestic....

They swear an oath to to protect the U.S. Constitution. Maybe they should take time to read it. Especially the Bill of Rights.

Because ironically these jarheads have set themselves up in some degree as an enemy of free speech.

At least the hippies knew enough display it upside down instead of trying to burn it. Displaying a flag upside down is as another poster noted a legitimate way of stating that the country is in distress. Although I'm sure he would disagree with me as to the reasons why.

I agree as a Soldier that their actions were unwarranted. They should understand better than anyone the right to free speech through expression.

Hell, I walked past the Westboro tards Wednesday night and one of them had a flag tied to his waistband, dragging it on the ground as he shouted his bullshit. Given a different forum I might have taken him on and taken that flag, but a large audience coupled with police presence, yeah, not gonna happen.

Anyway, as military members we should remember that we fight for retards, idiots, and morons just as much as we do for those that think just like us.
 
Video was disappointing, rather short non-event. Was hoping for an extended pursuit one could put the Benny Hill music to.

Korea74 is right. Obey and Comply. If you're not doing anything wrong then why would you have anything to hide? The government has the interests(namely safety) of its citizens as its priority. Therefore it stands to reason that the laws created by that government are just and moral, and anyone who wants to go against government, especially a democratically elected one, is selfish and very unpatriotic.

The Flag Code is advisory only, and certainly would give these idiots no right to effect a citizens' arrest or take away a flag being presented in an improper manner.
 
The Marines shouldn't have chased after those two scumbags but you can't blame them for what they did. As the left loves to claim there are consequences to free speech.

I love how the two hippies ran away like the cowards they were.They thought they were so tough holding the flag upside down yet ran away when they were confronted. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they were leftists.

you guys are way too caught up in some political free speech discussion bullshit, this is just pure comedy - lighten up!

you can argue all day about whether or not the guy should be flying the flag upside down and whether or not the marine should have said or done anything about it, but either way i wouldn't have been able to watch the video - and that would have been the biggest tragedy of all

my question is how does a flag that has been dropped to the ground suddenly lose all worth

that shows that the cultural value and moral in the country is lacking more to me

if a flag falls grab it and raise it back up

and a old flag hundreds of years old is till good to me even if it is torn
