Watch a US Marine chase down a hippe with an upside down US flag

I don't have a problem with flying the US flag upside down in protest over current conditions. IMO, it's easy to defend the idea that this country is in dire peril.

The two "Marines" should have known better than to attempt to interfere in a US citizen's right to free speech.

They have every right to disagree with the "hippie," but NO right to interfere.

There's a flag flying at a local gas station that is rather torn up. It's looking rather ragged. Surprised that has not become an issue.

Talk about asshole-on-asshole crime. I dislike hippies but these Marines look like two simpleminded boneheads. If they were really such patriots, they would understand the importance of free speech.

Yeah, it isn't legal to leave it like that. I reported a movie studio that had a torn up American flag. It was replaced a couple of days later.

There is something sad yet amusing about a guy who says "I don't give a shit about civil liberties, I fought for this country".

Where I live there is a guy who has an upside down american flag draped the across the side of his house. Honestly surprised he hasn't been vandalized yet.

You disrespect the King in anyway in Thailand you are looking at jail time. Maybe same should happen here.

I can't even watch this video. I would like to think with the reverence that 98% of the population of this country has for our military that our guys would not do something like this.

those aren't hippies.

perfecto

Ok, I'll play Devil's advocate. Have you ever fought in a war? None of that shit matters. What matters is coming back alive and the most potent symbol is the flag. When your life can be taken at any moment, you only care about those around you and the flag. That's it. So, I can see why these guys would take it personal, even forgiving them for not understanding the deeper meanings. But it can be distressing to see someone shit on something you take so seriously...

Yes it can be but every person that joins the military takes an oath to support and defend the Constitution which means that despite how strongly you may feel about an issue you have no right to interfere in someone else's legal exercise of their rights.

Humm don't recall any wars being fought on US soil... so not much about defense as much as it is about offense. You said it yourself -coming back alive. When the flag was made it was all about us minding or own business and not playing the bully world police.

They should really burn it.

(k) The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.
