About the best you can do is add in a discrete card like the nvidia gtx 750 or 750 ti. Those are pretty decent cards, should run on the OEM power supply, and will allow you to play any current game at 1080p and medium to high settings. Unless you can still return the computer, I would try that and see if the performance is adequate before dropping the money for a new system.

Remember this is a pre built system with most likely a 300 watt or so psu with no auxiliary power connectors. Adding in anything more powerful than a gtx 750ti will require a new power supply, and I would also be concerned about the card fitting in the case.

That was my thoughts too...if then the gaming performance is still terrible for what the OP is looking for then look into more.

Being that they think Windows 8 is the issue and not sure what it takes to build a PC, I am thinking there is some user tweaking needed too.
 
Just drop in a 750 and see how it goes. If its good, you just saved a 900 dollars. If its not good just return the card and build a new system.
 
try to sell the pc on craigslist or ebay. I bet you could move it quick for $450 to somebody just looking for an internet machine. I would rather take a small hit selling it like that than dealing with trying to make it what it can't be.

This is what I would do, plus you already have a monitor and the most important question is what resolution is it ? I am assuming from its cost it's at least a 1080p screen ?

I have no idea why so many people are recommending you the 750/750ti with a $1000 budget. That is a crappy gaming card and way to weak for your budget.

For a $1000 you can get a 4670K, motherboard, 8GB RAM, SSD, PSU and a decent video card. There is no reason to be getting a POS like a 750ti, the card is nothing special beyond saving you a quarter a week on power bills while being mediocre performance wise.

For under $1000, $950, you can build a beast of a computer.

Once you have the parts not more than 3 hours for your first time. If it's your second or third build not more than 2 hours more like 90 minutes. It's so easy like color by numbers. The time is actually in choosing the parts and creating the parts list so you are not lacking a part on build day. It helps to have a microcenter around just in case you are missing a small part or tool.

OP: Back in the day (a couple decades ago), building your own used to be tough and you used to have to be "techy" and whatnot to do it. Nowadays, if you can read an instruction manual, are careful with parts (don't force anything that doesn't fit, handle things delicately, etc.), and are handy enough to put a piece of furniture together that comes in a kit, you can build a pc. There are tons of videos (youtube comes to mind) online that show it as well. I would start by watching some of those to get the feel for it first but building a pc really isn't the forbidden art it used to be anymore.

Take it slow, keep a machine handy to come here for help if you get stuck, and you can do it. You'll also feel really proud as YOU built it.

When did Best Buy sell you that piece of junk by the way? Can you still take it back for a refund?

Also can you guys help me fix this nasty thing because I want to play with it for a while, but I still want to build my own pc while I play. I have college :/
 
There is a local radio tech show that went into a best buy five days in a row and asked for a gaming PC to see what they would suggest. One day the salesman said PCs were terrible for gaming and told him to get a console. The tech said he had "heard" that graphics cards were more powerful than consoles and the salesman said that was baloney. Another day he walked in and asked a saleswoman to suggestion a good gaming PC. She led him to a PC and said, "this one has Intel in it, so that is what you need." He said that he had heard he would need a discrete graphics card to play games and she said no you don't, it has Intel graphics, that's the best.

Needless to say he never got a good suggestion out of anyone there.

Sorry to the OP for the troubles. If you don't want to build then you can get an actual gaming PC from one of the boutique vendors that custom builds PCs. It is impossible to get a gaming machine from a big box store.

Microsoft has acknowledges that Windows 8 has caused some issues for games. This is what he is talking about.

OP, you need to update windows 8 to windows 8.1 it will fix some of the issues you experience in games, but not all of them. Good luck.
 
You might want to browse our own FS/FT thread as i know there are several graphics cards that would work for you now, allowing you to see if you really need to spend $$$ on a new rig.

Go buy an nVidia GTX750 or 750Ti, slap it in your box, and game for now until you build a real gaming box.

What monitor do you have? This is actually pretty important to know how much hardware you need. But a 750 will be FAR faster than your built in GPU.
 
if it was me i'd oc those APU modules to ~4GHz and drop in a R9 270x or higher video card
that'd play most anything

This is not the intention of return policies. Why not order the GPU that you'd also want in your final build first? Then if needed INCLUDE it in the new build?!?
