Washington Redskins plan to announce name change today, any guesses what it will be?

You left out transsexual slur, Italian slur, Polish slur, and several others.
I'd also note that I've never understood the "red skin" term. I've known a few american Indians over the years and none of them have appeared the least bit red to me. Even the famous Indians like Liz Warren don't appear to the least bit red.
I'm sure there is racial / geographical diversity among native American tribes. I've seen depictions with skin that appears red, but I'm not sure if they were authentic or manipulated. I'm a bit red/green colorblind, so I wouldn't know. Green traffic lights and paper money never actually look green to me.

Allow me to simplify the issue for you folks having a tough time grasping it.

Would it be okay to name your team the "Black-Skins" ??? 🙄

EDIT: And on-topic .... I vote for "DC Hogs" 😀
If most interactions with black people involved black warriors that earned a reputation for being formidable opponents, they probably would have used a name like that for an actual sports team.

I get pretty damned tanned when I've been in the sun for more than a few hours over the course of a week. Not sure how 'red' it is but definitely more red than bronze.

Per my earlier point about not having a large enough voice:
Snyder has long ignored requests of Native American tribes and other organizations to change the name because some deem the term offensive, citing the fact that the dictionary classifies it as a racial slur.
...
As the climate in the country has changed to a place of greater awareness of racial insensitivities, the Redskins name debate returned to the spotlight. A group of investors urged FedEx, Nike and Pepsi to join their fight to change the name. Meanwhile, reports surfaced that Washington’s minority owners also had encouraged Snyder to make a change. He had turned a deaf ear until FedEx, whose president and chairman Fred Smith owns a stake of the team, publicly demanded a change on July 2.
So yeah basically it took a rich white dude named Fred Smith to actually get them to change the name. Super.

The Washington Shteren

That's trivia from the movie Men In Black 3. And fitting too because they're being put on the spot to come up with a believable name.

we get it. asian people aren't really yellow and white people aren't really white.

The only people "offended" by the name are white SJWs.
That's false.

I live in Minnesota. Are the "Vikings" next?
Anyway, I don't think the Redskins name was meant to be offensive when they chose it, but the term has taken on that connotation, and I think it should be changed.
I also think some of the statues (especially confederate ones) should be taken down and the military bases should be renamed. However, with all the other problems we have in the country right now (Covid, gun violence, unemployment, police violence, etc.) all the attention does seem a bit....overblown.

I mean, they were founded and named by a staunch segregationist, so I'd say it's pretty difficult to divorce that from the intent of being offensive. ...in a sense that offense was extremely normal. It wasn't considered as such, being part of the generations long winning/subjugating class, it is simply understood as acceptable.

Doesn't mean that people aren't offended then, or now, all the same.

and again, "all the problems we have now" THAT IS THE SAME FUCKING THING that has been said DOZENS OF TIMES over the last 4+ decades in the movement to change that name. It's fucking "never the right time" for the ownership class to ever engage "the other people" in egalitarianism. You will only ever find another excuse for any damn time the subject comes up.

So get the fuck over it, no one gives a shit, the name will change and you'll move on. All these fake conservatives and white power assholes that take offense at every inch the world changes to be more inclusive aren't going to see a single ounce of their fucking privilege get stripped away, simply as society continues what it always continues to do: progress.

lol people get upset with this shit because it's just woke virtue signaling. It accomplishes nothing and addresses nothing.

Let's talk about helping Native Americans. Let's talk about addressing our drug/alcohol addiction issues with treatment centers. Let's talk about increasing education, digging people out of poverty (permanently, not temporarily), and talk about ways we get any Americans into solid-pay permanent employment.

But removing statues and changing team names? Does nothing other than annoy people. It's virtue signaling from mommy and daddy's mansion on their ipad. Like I said, no actual Native Americans give a shit about this - mostly because they probably have much more important shit to worry about.... And speaking on-behalf of them is just insulting and racist.

I'm probably the biggest Redskins fan on these boards and I personally don't give a shit what they change the name to. 3 years or so ago I'd argue to the death to keep it. But now I don't give a shit. I just hope they keep the color scheme, but I'd be okay if they do change it, if they changed it to the red/white/blue like the 3 other DC teams all use.

can you type a single fucking sentence without the word "virtue signaling" in it?

are you capable of forming a single thought that actual people with actual life experience and the ability to read beyond a 4th grade level are going to be willing to engage you in?

that's the thing: you might occasionally stumble into some worthwhile thoughts and arguments, but it's very difficult to get anywhere because your language is loaded with unending TRS and TRP meaningless phrases that really do nothing more than out your primary interest which is personal bias fulfillment. ...and because that is how your brain works, you simply can't absorb the plain fact that a lot of other people absolutely do not engage in your method of seeking (only the) information that can defend your unshakable biases.

...that's why you don't get the responses that you think you deserve. It's like a broken record of playground semantics and it's honestly not worth anyone's time.

when you use phrases like this, all it does is identify your profound disinterest in the actual topic under discussion. You've defined a conclusion that makes sense to you and are forever uninterested in actually understanding dick about it--so challenging your core beliefs. This is what clever phrases are for: masking your ignorance. It's easier than confronting personal ignorance.

I think this stuff is so ridiculous. Freaking SJWs getting offended at everything and the worse part is, they are winning.

They should probably make sure the new name does not have Washington in it either just to play it safe. I'm sure if you dig far enough into history, someone with the last name Washington probably did something bad at some point, or was somehow related to someone who did.
There's been talk of doing this for quite awhile but nothing ever came of it. Sponsors are pulling out now so that's probably the biggest reason. That & all the turmoil here i guess it's the right time.
There are some that are pulling down statues of George now too but you'd have to change the name of the city too.

Heck all sports team names should just be numbers and letters to be safe and cover all bases. D349 vs E832 are playing tonight, gonna be a good game!
You would think that would be safe but then there's this:
The Letter U and the Numeral 2
OK, the lawsuit wasn't really about the "U" & the "2" but it did start it

Wait. "Washington Redskins" is a "nickname?"

What is the actual current name?
Washington Redskins is the team name it's just the "Redskins" part they want changed. Some might consider the mascot part the nickname of a team.

Move the team to Florida and call it The Great Unwashed.
Florida Man...

I'm not really a Skins fan, but there have been a bunch of them. They have been around for almost a century and have played 1,000 games. Generations have lived and died enjoying their favorite football team and probably given much more thought to first downs than bows and arrows.

If a minority can force arbitrary change to an institution that has been around for a third of our country's existence, they might not just stop there. They may want to start censoring people or even tear down statutes.

Some day they may come after something that has more significance to you than somebody else's football team.

Like the continent they lived on for thousands of years? Like the culture that was demolished, then made a caricature for entertainment value and military naming conventions?

The irony. It's thick.
