grow a pair and just leave. IT'S FAST FOOD. The world isn't gonna end because you quit with no notice.

OfficeMax isn't too bad of a place to get your foot in the door dealing with technology. We now have a decent supply of laptop computers, and depending on the group of people that work at the one you applied to, they could have a VERY good knowledge of the technology products.

I'm a supervisor there, and its an alright job. Better than food industry, imo, worked at Pizza Hut. Wasn't bad, but i prefer selling computers, printers, dig. cameras over making pizza.

So I have been working at this fast food place, Taco Time, for the past year and couple months. Last Friday, I gave them my two weeks notice. My reasons for quitting were:

- Having started me at $5.50, even though my job before started at $6.00, and over the past year only being raised to $6.50.

- Working at least one weekend night every week, and sometimes both.

- Problems with a certain manager that never were resolved, and my opinions washed aside.

- The inability for them to have set times on which we could go home. Everyone on a shift would be assigned a number, 1 being sent home first, and 5 being sent home last. You never knew when you would be going home, because that was entirely up to the manager on duty.

Its not a very long list, but these problems got continually tiring over the past year or so. My requests for raises every three or so months were continually met with hesitancy, due to the fact that I was slow at making food (mostly due to the fact that I was only ever assigned to make food once my whole time there).

Recently my manager started scheduling me weekends only. After asking why this was, and getting the reason back that we had too many people working there, I asked if I could work during the week, and not so much on the weekends. Her response was to still schedule me weekends, and give me one short shift during the week.

I was supposed to work tonight, but after going in for work, I find that she has completely changed the schedule, and that I dont work this week at all. After asking if someone changed the schedule, she responds that she did, and not in a very nice manner that is usual.

So im pretty sure my time there is done. I am kind of hurt and confused as to why I was treated so poorly, or if I was at all. I can count on one hand how many times I was late for a shift, and only missed 4 shifts of work (2 of which were thanks to her great scheduling). I never sat around idile, I was always on my feet doing work, and did several above the call favors for customers.

Are my reasons not good as I think they are? Was my quitting justified?

Sounds to me as if you are a real go getter....rofl....

I know what the OP is feeling, its rough quitting a job without another lined up. I think about quitting my minimum wage job, but I have no education above high school( I'm in the process). I would love to get a job somewhere that pays good so I don't have to struggle with bills each month, but without a college degree I don't see many options.

Whoa, you worked at a place called Taco Time? Man, that's like the most generic fast food taco restaurant I've ever heard of, it's up there with Burger World from Beavis and Butthead.

If you're 18, go put your application in at Home Depot. They're on a hiring blitz right now, and while they say they are only hiring you as a temp, the majority of all temps are made FT or PT associates. As a cashier, you'd be making considerably more than you are now. As a floor associate, much, much more. You don't need any previous knowledge to work as a floor associate, but it does help. If you're hired, it'll be as a cashier or in Seasonal/Gardening. You'll bust your ass when Gardening comes into season, but it's going to pay better than any other job you'll be able to get.

You need to go to school. Get an education. Work at your school doing whatever, be it in the computer lab, or various other things. Seriously, don't be stuck at a dead end job like that unless that is what you enjoy doing. You'll have to go through that for the rest of your life. I mean surely you can get a job without an education... and if this is your plan, I suggest you act quickly.

Even McDonalds pay $7.25 these days.

Good job getting out! (Of course this only applies if you get a new job within 3 weeks--we're not going to be cheering on the unemployed!)

You put up with way too much for a minimum wage job... Now you're putting too much thought into the fact that you quit.

I wonder if some millionaire reads other job threads and thinks "Dude, you're only making 80k? Get a real job and then complain about things."

Thats exactly where I am. This was my first job, so if it seems like im taking it a little too serious, that might be why.

I am planning on going to college. I am still in high school, and at the end of summer I plan to move out and go to college. This is kinda raising some problems, because the type of jobs I am looking at (was looking at a tech support job) require some training and about a six month commitment.

Thanks for all the pointers. I guess I will go check out home depot. And I guess I could always get a higher paying job at some other fast food place.

Nationwide chains will allow you to transfer stores. Check out Lowes, Costco, or Home Depot. They generally treat their employees well, offer benefits for PTers, and pay much more than average retail. If you want some info about HD, PM me.

You are the first person in modern history to give two weeks' notice at a fast-food job. That says a lot about your character, most ppl would go out "Half-Baked" style:

(pointing) "Fvck YOU, Fvck YOU, Fvck YOU--you're cool--Fvck YOU, im OUT"

I only have a diploma, I make well above that the OP made....education isn't as much a requirement in tech field, until you look to move up into management. There IS a bit of a ceiling, from what I have seen...around the 75-90K mark in this area, ymmv.

This sums up the thread perfectly. The OP sounds like a great worker and certainly deserves better. Now he just has to realize it.

Those sound like good reasons to quit to me.

Doesn't matter that you worked hard, it's fast food and they can replace you in a heartbeat. You don't mean anything and neither does your dedication. This is capitalism.
