I've read about it many times and it saddens me every time. Ofcourse, when Japan denies it and people in Korea and China get pissed, it is mentioned in the news.

Precisely. This kind of crap has been done by many different groups throughout history. Something was pretty messed up with the culture of the Japanese army at that time that things like this took place, but they definately aren't the only group like this.

This is just one of the more recent ones, and best documented.

It does quite tick me off if Japan hasn't recognized that this has taken place though.

It's a darker part of our selves, but it CAN be kept at bay unless a particularly vile set of circumstances comes into play.

I don't think we should just accept it as human nature. That's a cop-out.

Terrible.

the japanese people are fiercely nationalistic and would never admit to it.

I'd say it would be more like asking "which leg would you like to lose, your left or your right?" It's so disturbing to read about things that countries have done and, in some cases, continue to do.

The japanese people look at chinese people like they are dogs. Even to this date, the PM goes to worship the WW2 soldiers like they were heroes.

what makes the nanking massacre unique is that you'd never imagine that coming from a japnese culture that is highly evolved in terms of philosophy, society, values, customs etc. It's hard to comprehend that such depravity existed in such a people.

Japanese will never admit to it, that just means they will do it again, when the time comes

and the sheer scale of it. these atrocities were done by an actual army, not just some random religious lunatics with a political agenda. they had no real reason to do it, just driven by animalistic savagery.

Flyboys should be required reading in high school. A great read, hard to put down, and the horrors the Japanese committed against the Chinese and against US airmen are clearly documented.

Lots of people look at lots of other people like they are dogs. Humans are cruel, inhumane and self serving.

Nothing has changed for thousands of years.

The time has come and gone and come again for various countries in the world. This type of thing is happening now, as we speak, in many places. It's easy to gawk at the "history" but easier to ignore the current reality. No country is immune from it, so no country can be pinpointed for blame either. All should be held accountable. We think we've advanced in civilization but nothing could be further from the truth.

When the Germans were rampaging across Western Russia they were just as bad. Mostly the SS, THey were cruel but comparing the Jap army with the SS i would say the japs were just blood thirsty animals. Oh and my dad fought in the south pacific in WWII so i do have some stories from him, somebody who was there.

Yasukuni Shrine is a shrine dedicated to the war dead of Japan and was around long before WWII.

Look at the crap written by the Pro-Nazi Japanese. Last time I looked, China has over $2 TRILLIONS in Foreign currency as cash reserve with a GDP that's growing over 10% a year . South Korea is the 11th Largest economy in the world. But they say The Chinese and Korea(let's not count the North Korea, they're whacked out!) are making a big deal of the Shrine because they want money from the Japanese government. What a bunch of crap.

"So, then why do China, South Korea, and North Korea make such a fuss about Yasukuni Shrine? If you were to ask a Japanese nationalist about it, I?m sure they?d say because those countries just want money from Japan. I suppose something might be said for that. Actually, I suspect that the average person on the street in China or Korea couldn?t care less about what some politician is doing in another country. I do strongly suspect that the government?s of China and the two Koreas are using Yasukuni Shrine as a method to whip up nationalism and as a way to blame Japan for their economic problems; Japan is a handy tool to take people?s eyes off of the problems at home"
