Was I in the wrong? Parking lot shenanigans w/ pics!

As i'm leaving my place of residence i'm walking a few feet over to the public parking lot to get in my car and go to work. The parking lot consists of perpendicular spots in the center and angle parking spots on the edges. The parking lot has one lane that circles the entire lot, the lane is narrow but wide enough to fit two cars going either direction.

As I approach my vehicle I hear a car follow my footsteps waiting for me to leave and take my spot, which is fine since all the parking spaces are completey taken. My car is in the perpendicular spot and only a few feet away from the entrance/exit which means I have to turn left out of my spot to head over to the exit. As I do this, the van waiting for my spot decided to hog the entire lane making it impossible for me to leave.

I shift my car over to the right side, so she can backup her van and shift to the left so we can both pass, but refuses to do so to only make open handed hand gestures from her windshield.. In other words she doesn't give a fuck and she's not going to move. Which means i'd have to go the other direction and circle the entire lot and come around to the exit.

The problem with that, is I noticed another car enter the parking lot heading the other direction which means i'll have to fight my way out with the other car that entered the lot to exit out. Either way i'm screwed unless this lady backs up her van a few feet for me to exit. I'm sitting there for a few moments with our cars facing head to head while she still continues to make hand gestures, I finally get out of my car and point forwards and yell "can you backup your car so I can get out!" She rolls down her window and mumbles "go around!" I then, said "I'm just going to sit here and wait all day until you back up your damn van!" At this point the car that entered from the opposite direction circled around the parking lot and is directly behind my car, in otherwords i'm now boxed in and fucked.

She's now smiling at me making fumbled hands while I get back in my car decided to just reverse it back in my spot, she noticed the car behind me and FINALLY moved her van backwards and shifted to the left so I can inch over to the right and exit. Was I being an asshole by yelling at her? Here's what the parking lot looks like including the scenario.

Cliffs:
--Lady in van notices me attempt to leave parking spot
--Lady in van refuses to move w/ fumbling hand gestures
--Yell at lady to move back
--Another car enters the lot looking for parking spot circles around boxes me in
--Attempt to move my car back in previous spot, lady decides to move
--I get out

Just by looking at the angle the cars are parked on the left side, it seems like you were facing the wrong way. You should have been trying to exit facing the car that boxed you in.

Half the drivers on the road are so afraid of parking their cars that expecting sanity is beyond ridiculous.

Common courtesy is to make it as easy as possible for the person leaving, but to be honest, you could have backed up enough to let her park and then left.

Can you please say that again in Engrish? 🙂 I thought I understood the situation until I looked at the diagram. What did the third car have to do with anything?

I could have went around but the exit was only a few feet away, she had no cars waiting behind her whatsoever.. she could have at least had the courtesy to backup a bit so she can have the only spot available in this lot.

because in the second pic, that's where the third car came into play.. he also saw me leave and tried to grab my spot, leaving me boxed in either direction

ding ding ding.

You shouldn't back up in parking lots. It's unexpected behavior and can cause accidents.

There's a reason those cars are angled in that direction. The traffic should only flow in that direction.

edit: I know you obviously have to back up to exit your spot but I mean when you are traveling in the lanes.

Well you asked whether you were in the wrong and in this case yes you were. Just because the exit is only a few feet away doesn't mean you should be driving the wrong way.

blah..bandwidth exceeded. I'm trying to visualize the situation but i can't.

But ya, from your description, I would've been pissed, gave her the bird, put the car back in and walk away.

Meh...if I want a spot I make sure I give the car that is pulling out enough room to back out with ease. The last thing I need is some moron to back up and hit me by doing something stupid even though they know I am there. The extra 5 seconds of my time is well worth avoiding that scenario even if the odds of it happening are small. That woman is a douche.

True. Although usually in those one way only lots both sides of the drive have angled spots.

When the lady backed up for the other guy, you should have moved in, gone forward to block her, given the other guy the spot, then reversed your way out of the lot. Oh, and wave at her.

WTF is picoodle? Why cant people just use bbzzdd or flickr?

But anyways, based off the pic when it was working, those lanes look too narrow to resonably expect people to think they are 2 lane, and the angled spots reinforce that, so you were in the wrong.

It looks to me like you were taking a short cut to the exit by travelling in the wrong direction. She would have been expecting you to pull out of the spot and turn right to travel in the correct direction. You were a dick for yelling at her.

Sharking for parking is winner take all. You had the space; she didn't want it bad enough to help you out, did she? So you keep it.

Exactly, this is the mentality I had when leaving the spot. She could have met me in the middle somewhere on terms for this spot and let me out.
