Was Darth Vader being kept alive by Palpatine?

He fulfilled the prophecy at the end of Episode III, didn't he? Two surviving Jedi, two surviving Sith... seems like balance to me.

wait, what? The only Jedi I saw there was Luke, and I don't remember there being any other sith lords other than palpatine and vader. Or did i miss something?

Luke had a twin. remember?

I would count Yoda more than Leia. Leia might have been atuned but I dont think she never became a Jedi. Same with Han Solo, was atuned but never really cap'ed on it.

have you read the books? leia starts to learn it quite a bit + luke starts training people + there are more sith
