Yeah did the OP miss the fact that Vader took a gigawatt of the dark side at point blank.

In geek debate it's said Vader really only died because his life support was fried and he could have gotten help but choose not too as he had turned back to good and knew there was nothing that could have made up for what he had done.

Picture Hitler one day waking up and saying 'hey guys, I was wrong! let's just be friends!'...no matter how sincere the dude is getting pounded.

did Vader in episode 3 say to Obi Wan "When I left you" or was it "when you left me","I was but the learner now I am the master".Which was it?

He died because he got spacked down with all that evil lightning crap, not to mention his arm was cut off. But why he REALLY died was that the plot needed him to die, so arguing about whether the lightning might have messed up the circuitry of his suit, or whatever is pointless, he died because he had to die and the "reason" that you are spected to assume is because of the electrocution, but if you want to think it was the magic then thats fine too.

I don't know man. He got shocked pretty good. You could see his skeleton when he was getting shocked. It might have been "necessary," but it is also plausible. Not that anything in the movie is really plausible. So if you can believe in people picking up spaceships by using their mind and space ships and lightsabers and talking wiseass robots within the context of the movie, seeing Darth Vader die b/c of the shocking is not a jump at all.
Do not recall seeing anyone's skeleton as they got shocked, at least not Vader's.

Huh? How is this? What, you've only seen Ep VI once or something? Color me confused.

EDIT: Proof; Vader's skeleton

Ok, it isn't exactly his skeleton, but I get what you mean 🙂

Just happened to [rent] ep 6 this weekend ^_^

I just noticed he Obiwan called him "Darth". Shouldn't he have said Vader or Anakin? Darth is just a name specifying he's sith, right? So its like "Prince of Darkness" Vader.

If I remember reading correctly, I don't think Lucas expected the Star Wars franchise to do so well, so he probably didn't think that far ahead. At that time, Darth may have been a first name and not a title.

Well when he was burned he was still mostly human (arm argmentation). After he was "disarmed", he suffered other problems requiring a rebreather. Vader would still be alive if he had used a static wrist band.

His hate was keeping him alive

He fulfilled the prophecy

After it was all said and done he learned to let go.

He fulfilled the prophecy at the end of Episode III, didn't he? Two surviving Jedi, two surviving Sith... seems like balance to me.

wait, what? The only Jedi I saw there was Luke, and I don't remember there being any other sith lords other than palpatine and vader. Or did i miss something?

At the end of Episode III, you had the Emperor and Vader, and Yoda and Obi-Wan. That was it (AFAIK)
You thinking of Episode VI? Return of the Jedi?

Actually, he entered a fugue state after getting zapped and then Luke went and burned him alive. Oops.

the electricity effed up his ectro life-support circuitry; i.e., his suit.

I think the Dark side was keeping palpatine alive; not vader.

/nerd debate.

I'm trying to remember the part you're talking about. I haven't watched it in a while, but I believe it's when they're fighting and Darth Vader says the "Now I am the master" line. And then Obi Wan responds with "Only a master of evil, Darth." I don't think of it as him calling him by name, only as him using his title as Darth Vader in a negative context. Him calling Vader by the term Darth was Obi Wan pointing out that the only thing he's mastered is becoming evil, hence how he's now going by the title Darth. It'd be like someone nowadays fighting some white supremecist named Dave, but instead of saying "You're going down, Dave!" we say "You're going down, nazi!". To Obi Wan the term has an extreme negative context, even if it doesn't to Vader.

I would count Yoda more than Leia. Leia might have been atuned but I dont think she never became a Jedi. Same with Han Solo, was atuned but never really cap'ed on it.

Yea, but the balance ended when Obi-Wan and Yoda died, so the Emperor had to get the smack down. Then Vader died, which just screwed things up again :disgust:

The prophecy said he'd bring balance ... never said anything about maintaining it. There needs to be much better fine print on prophecies.
