WARNING to Tennessee Vols !!!

When you guys play Florida, make sure you don't tackle any of their players. You'll probably get sued. Spurrier's finally went over the edge and thinks that the NCAA is a tag-football division. He should start wearing visors again, it was apparently his only release, well that and crying.

Figures, this would be posted by someone who's not even a fan of college football.

Florida and Tennessee play each other every year in the regular season - not the Championship game - they're in the SAME division of the SEC - so they CANT play in the SEC game.

But about that, he appeared to twist his knee - and he CLEARLY tried stepping on Grossmans hand.

This is from a team that intentionally put hits on Florida's QB late (per D coordinators instructions) in '97

Go watch golf or something you can keep up with.

Yep, I screwed up. As you can tell, I don't follow the SEC too closely. I'm still a football fan, just not a Florida fan. I'm kind of mixed on whether I'd like you guys to beat Tennessee. Part of me, would like to see you lose, the other part would like to see you win and choke on Miami. You think FSU is agressive, Miami invented agressive football. Grossman vs Dorsey, no contest.

I do have to agree the clip of stepping on Grossman's hand should have been an obvious unsportsman call. However, I don't see the twisting the knee part. Probably just perspective of what the viewer wants to see.

Oh and you shouldn't use the word retarded, it upsets your alumni.

I dont know what level you've played football - so I dont know if you were looking for the same things I was

Watch it again (if you can) watch him put his arms around Graham's knee and attempt to roll over... thus twisting his knee.

The other point is - you dont get your knee twisted simply by getting tackled and going down. The tackle was as regular as can be - you dont twist your knee from that.

FSU players are dirty - and their fans are trying to make their miserable season legitimate by spreading garbage about how Florida "just cant handle it"

Whatever, enjoy sitting at home during the post-season 'nole fans.

As far as the game against Tenn - I dont see anyone beating Florida right now - They'll take care of tenn and the SEC champ. game (weather wont be a factor there) It's @home so I'm not worried too much.

Gators tend to roll their prey when they're down, maybe he learned it from watching one of them. Seriously, I don't see how someone in the heat of a tackle could be that aware of what leg they were grabbing, let alone trying to twist it and pop the knee. So you are saying the only way a player gets his knee injured is from a irregular tackle. I'm not sure I know what an irregular tackle is.

FSU will still get a bowl game, may be the tidey bowl, but they'll still have something to do during the post season.

Win or lose, Spurrier has always called foul when playing FSU. You would think other coaches are teams would say something if FSU truly played 'dirty'. Spurrier is the only one I have ever heard say this.

Also, there is someone who can beat Florida now, Miami. If they aren't sure how to do it, they can just give Auburn a call.

I watched the replay several times, I don't see the twist. As far as the late hits per the DC's instructions, prove it. Ever heard Mickey Andrews saying he told his players to late hit the QB's? Didn't think so.

Why is it that UF's players and coaches are the only ones that FSU plays that complain of this?

...but there are a lot of different team players and coaches that would admit Spurrier is a whining cry-baby. Go figure!

whoa.....two different issues here...

I played College football, so I think I know what the game is like on the field....

In 97, they CLEARLY were hitting the QB excessively, the fault there lies with the officials who didn't throw some early flags on it...I think the QB was Wuerfuel (or however the heck you spell his name), and he took a severe beating....it worked too....he was clearly rattled...that was also one of the best defensive teams you will ever see in NCAA football..

I do agree that he tried to step on Grossman's hand, but you really can't twist someone's knee to the extent that it is injured by the way he tackled him..it wouldn't surprise me if he did try it, but I don't see it watching the replay

I think the BCS is going to take a lot of heat this year as far as who should play Miami in the Rose bowl...If Texas beats a surging Colorado team, and if Oregon Wins out, and assuming the winner of the Tenn vs Fla game only has one loss, it will be really difficult to justify the #2 team among those three..

that being said, it won't matter, Miami will win it all anyway..they really are loaded with talent, size, and speed..

Does anyone else see how bad Notre Dame's QB is at throwing the ball? I thought Bellisari was bad!

Add Alabama, Auburn and Tennessee to the list:

Florida head coach Steve Spurrier fired the first public shot, saying publicly that he "wasn?t surprised" the NCAA was sniffing around Alabama. Reports have Spurrier actually turning in Alabama over recruiting violations. Coaches or representatives at Arkansas, Auburn and Tennessee would later follow suit.

Alabama hasn?t been the only target. A story that has grown into an underground urban legend has South Carolina coach Lou Holtz, while at an SEC coaches? convention, accusing a fellow SEC coach (not employed by Alabama) of buying players in his state. And while Alabama is Spurrier?s most recent and most public target, he is well known for his veiled criticism of other schools, namely Auburn and Tennessee.

1991 - Steve Spurrier, Florida football coach, telling Gator fans that a fire at Auburn's football dorm had destroyed 20 books: "But the real tragedy was that 15 hadn't been colored yet."

Now here is something funny:

"If there is a better coach with less class than Steve Spurrier, I don't know who it is," - National sports radio personality Jim Rome

Being an Alabama fan and alum I'll be pulling for the Gators next weekend. I think they have the best shot of representing the SEC well if they make it to the national title game. I don't know who they'll be facing in the SEC Championship game, but I don't think either team will be able to beat them. Auburn beat Florida once before, but that was on their home turf in bad weather with a lot of things (namely turnovers) bouncing Auburn's way that day. I'm not trying to take too much from them, they played great that day and definitely had Florida reeling. But I just don't see them being able to line up against Florida again and have everything go their way again. And I say that knowing my team beat Florida twice in the same season in '99 so we all know it can be done. I just don't think Auburn is quite up to the task this year, maybe next year though. LSU has the offense to hang with just about anybody, but their defense has been very shoddy all year. Florida will probably have another field day with their secondary if they face them again.

I have absolutely nothing to contribute on the whole lawsuit front since I know next to nothing about it. I was just glad to see the rare football thread here in geek land 😀

Jim rome will say anything thats popular/controversial/funny because it gets peoples attention - it makes people watch.

Say what you want about him - he's the best coach in college football.

12 nine win seasons w/ out ever having one of the top recruiting classes in the country

he does a lot with his talent. He's built a 'system' thats almost unbeatable.

Except for wind, it didn't even start to rain until the last five minutes of the Auburn game.

I don't have anything against Gators or SEC, just Spurrier. I don't even think his player was into the whole lawsuit thing, he didn't even seem sure, but Spurrier is probably taunting him.

<< Except for wind, it didn't even start to rain until the last five minutes of the Auburn game. >>

Yeah, but that wind wasn't exactly a 10mph breeze. It was gusting from the middle of the second quarter on. Auburn's kicker, Damon Duval, actually had to put a massive hook on two of his kicks just to have a shot at them. They were the most bizzarre and impressive field goal attempts I've ever seen.

The BCS may take some slack this year, but if Florida wins out I think/hope they get a shot at Miami. I personally think out of all the other contenders, they match up the best against the Hurricanes.

Florida never has one of the top recruiting classes? Where are you getting that? Spurrier? Florida is one of the best four states to recruit from in the country, and they are loaded with HS all-americans....

They guy is a good coach, but not the best...I think your name kind of implies your bias here!

I can kind of see what Gator is saying though about the recruiting classes. The state of Florida might be loaded to the gills with high school football talent, but even a pool of talent that large can quickly be dilluted when you have 3 perennial top 10 teams in the same state with numerous other national schools stealing a decent percentage of players as well. In other words, the talent could theoretically be split 3 ways each year (and that doesn't account for other schools dipping into the state's talent pool.) I don't think Florida's ever exactly lacking for talent when it comes to recruiting classes 😉 , but I don't usually remember hearing their classes as highly touted as Florida St.'s or Miami's each year.

well I'll admit that Spurrier is one of the best coaches (if not the best) in college football, however he is a complete dickhead. My assessment about national championship right now is that if Florida wins out (I think Tennessee still has a good shot at upseting them though) it'll be down to Oregon and Florida as to who will play Miami in the Rose Bowl. I have no doubt that Miami will go to the Rose Bowl, and I don't doubt that whoever they play will take a severe beating. As for the lawsuit, I don't know. FSU and Florida have always been rough when they play eachother, and Spurrier is a whining pansy.

As far as the best coach this year though, I'd vote Ralph Friedgen for coach of the year. He took a Maryland team that's had losing records for the last several years, and will most likely go to the Orange Bowl with them this year.

Last year was the only year that Florida got a handful of top 100 recruits.

Yes, Florida has a huge talent pool - but so does Texas and California. The state of florida loses a lot of guys - and the top recruits are going to go to miami or fsu traditionally.

This year, Floridas class was ranked above 20

They usually sit around 10-15

It's not like they're pulling in one of the best classes ever year. They get players that work with their system (like nebraska does)

Half or so(its anywhere from 45-65%) of the top Texas high school players go out of state. The best from Florida usually stay in Florida, as you said FSU and Miami.

<<This year, Floridas class was ranked above 20

According to Superprep, Florida's average recruiting class in the 90's ranked FOURTH, behind only Michigan, Florida State, and Notre Dame.
Miami wasn't in the top 10.
So much for UF not getting top recruits. I knew that was a crock of crap when I read it.

As far as Spurrier's lack of class........well, it's undeniable. I know UF fans like him because he's an alumnus and he wins, but he is a first class jerk.
I still remember him running up the score on UNC while he was at Duke........not that I minded UNC getting pounded, because I'm an NC State fan, but when you're up 41-7 and you call a flea flicker play at the end of the game, it is not classy.
