Wanted to post a warning to everyone who got in on last week's $399 Toshiba laptop at BB.

Be sure to use your laptops this week! The BB 14 day return expires next sunday.

After 4 days of use, mine developed a solid blue line running top to bottom on the right side of the screen. I really liked the laptop and figured this was a fluke, so went back to the store today to see if they would exchange for a new one. Of course, they had none in stock. I wandered back to the computer display, and saw that the DISPLAY MODEL HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. (obviously it did not last week)

Keep an eye on your screens... On mine, the problem is constant. On the display model, it would come and go as you wiggled the screen back and forth.

Angry. Very angry. It looks like I'll be returning the laptop this week.

Edit: For the comments below - the only reason I started a new thread was because I saw TWO identical laptops both develop the same problem in a week. I don't know if it is a widespread problem, or a fluke, but if you bought one you only have a week left to return it if it develops the same. I certainly don't care about my post count. LOL.

You know better than to start a new thread that has nothing to do about a deal. You could just have posted in the same thread.

Thanks for the warning I've been using it since the Sunday I bought it. Got it running a dual-boot of WinXP and SuSE Linux, so far I haven't run into this problem or any others so far. Also had it running for lengthy amount of times so it's been broken in pretty well. Sorry to hear about your problem, maybe you can get some kind of a refund and get that $499 lappy they're selling?

flot, You did the right thing, forget those that are increasing their own thread count by posting criticism.

maybe BB did this on purpose and tell u "too bad you didn't buy our protection plan", but if anyone looking for a cheap lappy to save $ why would they spend anything more...?

I bought one the day of the sale and still have no problems. Did notice the manufacture date of the lcd is listed as 1990 in device manager though, wonder if that could be possible?

Uh, you send it to the manufacturer and get it fixed under warranty, the same as if you bought it from any other retailer. 21 days is actually pretty generous as these things go.

I have had several customers come in to my store (OM) want to know if we carry Toshiba Laptops. One customer told me that BB is discountinuing Toshiba, since toshiba is having problems.

It is a Good PSA - but technically belongs in Brag and Moan not the Deal part, although fewer people would have seen it there.

Another warning.

These toshiba L25 models do NOT support dual channel memory operation :( even though Toshibas specs say they do.

Proof

Northbridge chip used in all L25 models is the rs410m (a variant of the Xpress 200m) and does NOT support dual channel. :(

Sucks becuase it would have REALLY helped out the integrated graphics.

Another Toshiba scam :(

Good to know, although I am not sure how this could be a driver issue if wiggling the screen causes/repairs the problem.
