Anycase, maybe a post limit in ATOT would help. say 20 max post in atot? if that is even a feature of fuse talk.

OT kicks ass. If there were no OT you would see alot more flaming in all the other Topic's. People like to talk, which is why I'm not gonna say much of anything to you N8Magic, blabber on buddy, nothing will come of it but more flaming!

It's not just OT it's every forum on AT. The video and general forums, as well as the overclockign forum is now nothing more than a guge place where tons of random people post the same kind of question 50 times a day. Also the interesting threads like technology depth threads and future generation graphics(thing I remember from the 3dfx days) are gone too. Now it's just a bunch of people that know not much or think they know alot, but dont that post all sorts of the same things over and over and over. The real techies have been deluded into a mass of normal people, the expansion of AT is destroying the comunity, and making it lose it's apeal.

I could be wrong, but I don't think that closing Off Topic is something that the Moderators would have the authority to do. Zuni or Anand are probably the only people with the required access to FuseTalk's configuration to make such a drastic change to the forums.

Well obviously! I dont think the mods are saying they are going to do it themselves. But I'd imagine if a vast majority of the mod's backed such an idea anand would give it serious thought.

Would it be feasible to divide the OT into separate "Serious" and "Casual" forums? The "Serious" OT would be reserved for political, religious, scientific etc. subject matters and on-topic posting; with only a relatively small amount of active threads (compared to the current Off Topic) perhaps a more strict code of conduct could be enforced. The bulk of the current Off Topic discussion would take place in the "Casual" forum.

I've been insulting idiots here for 4 years trying to get them to leave but they just won't take a hint!! In fact they all go back to their AOL Chatrooms and bring more like them back

There's plenty of Cool Forums that are Offshoots of this place. I can think of 3 right off the bast. Rallispec, SWF and Paulsons. If this place makes your bowels run you could always skip over to one of those places.

Erm OT is most of the reason I bought a membership. It may be annoying, lame, argumantative or whatever at times but so far it seems like it's a pretty dammned good OT forum.

Mods, closing these forums because of a few people is ridiculous. The OT forum is nowhere near imploding or anything like that.
Everyone needs to calm down. We are making a mountain of a molehill.

I kind of see AT Forums as a small city on the internet with 95,000+ residents. The cops that patrol the city are the moderators, they keep order and try to make sure justice prevails for the majority of the residents.
Now what happens when the cops are out numbered or are just overwhelmed is that kaos starts to reign, which in my view is what is starting to happen to this little city. The gangs and rogue residents loose respect for the community and start to burn it down, because they can or are having a bad day. More cops, less crime.
It's not really that bad here, but it could get there. IMHO...........

Hey, I like it here too don't get me wrong.

I guess the one single thing that bugs me the most is the name calling. Not the "You sir are an idiot. " posts, but the ones that are completely irrelevant to the thread and serve no purpose but to piss people off. Why don't these people post THEIR view on the thread? To call someone a *insert favourite derogatory remark here* and then not even try to rebuke their statement/POV is completely useless. You might as well post an empty message in the thread.

I'm all for a good debate, but I draw the line at name calling with nothing of substance to back it up.

It won't happen. I guarantee 90+% of subscribers hang out primarily on OT...

And on the off-chance it does happen, I want a refund too.. Pro-rated of course..

And to be honest, I don't see a big problem with the forums..

Interesting proposal, but would it really stop those who go into debate threads just to ruin them?

Also, bandwidth seems to be fairly strained as is, I imagine the free servers would be unbearable if people were neffing up a nef forum.

And would you suggest moderating a flame forum? This is an all ages board.
