Loved JK1, rushed to buy JK2...utter disappointment. This is in my opinion the single worst FPS to come out since Daikatana...complete with annoying frog-like things which attack you everywhere. I can't think of any FPS with AI this bad going back 5 years...and that's bad. The entire game consists of running from one area to the next and shooting storm troopers...followed by finding some well hidden switch/crawlspace/hole/jump-trick to get to the next place. Its totally linear, buggy as hell, and even the cut-scenes are pre 1997 graphics/tech level. The weapons are BORING and all seem to do essentially the same thing.

Bottom line - this game is an abomination and is not worth it's weight in excrement. Don't support $hitty software because of the lisence and name. Let this one sink to the bottom.
 
Exactly which JK2 did you buy? Because the one I bought is very good, and lots of fun. The graphics are great, the gameplay is great,(especially when you get the lightsaber). Worst FPS since Daikatana? Give me a break! And I dont remember any frog like things in JK2, you are on crack sir! The AI is not ground breaking, but is pretty good. I havent noticed any bugs at all, maybe its your computer. I can run it at 1600X1200 with everything turned all the way up, with no problems, and it runs smooth! Sorry you didnt like it, but it is by no means $hitty software. Bottom line- this game is great, and lots of fun!😉
 
chechi, you must be the kinda guy that just starts swooning at the mere mention of "Star Wars" to like this crap. It is so very far below par compared to other modern FPS. How much time did you spend (be honest) looking around for some hidden door, or hidden switch, or some trick to jump on something, or some hidden crawlspace. How many times did you run into dead-ends and have to start backtracking to look for some hidden something-or-other to magically unlock something else to continue in the game. I got so fed up i just turned clipping off after while and still got bored looking for things. BOOOORRRRRIIIIINNNNNGGGGGG.

Oh and tell me that in the mines those little fuskers that attack you aren't EXACTLY like the frogs in Diakatana. If you deny that then you are in total denial about this annoying title.
 
You really think its that bad? Granted, I only played it for an hour today but I was having a blast. Havent had any bugs, and yea...there's alot of running back and forth to get keys and such but Ive never had that much of a problem with it and I love the lightsabers. I dont think the single-player is as good as it should be...but the multiplayer MORE than makes up for it.

If you edge up to a corner and shoot a guy in the head and he stands there firing into the wall while you cut him up...happened EVERY TIME. They run right past you during fights. They all cluster up in front of each other shooting each other in the backs. Ugh...not ground breaking for sure. I can't think of any game to compare it to.

(GRIPE) I agree with this part. I like the chopping up stormtroopers and assorted aliens, but spending hours searching for a switch, or trying to jump to some hidden place is really annoying. I've come to the point where I'll just use noclip and go through doors that I can't find switches to. I know it's not the point of the game, but I don't think getting stuck in an area with not a hint of a switch is any good. (/GRIPE).

I think the multiplayer game is really fun. I can't really play on the internet, but I like killing bots with my double sided lightsaber.
 
Snatchface, I am not a big star wars fan at all, I just like games, and this is a cool game. You try to say its the worst game ever, and its not by any means. This is not the best game ever, but it is good. I dont know how you say its so far under par. What other games are you playing right now that you think are soo much better? I dont have to spend hours looking for things, I am good at figuring things out, and from playing games, I know to keep an eye out for things, such as grates and hidden areas, I have no problems finding them. And when ever I start shooting a storm trooper from up top, he shoots me right back, and not the wall. So I dont know whats causing your problems. Its kinda funny that your spending so much time trying to put down a game just because you dont like it. That doesnt make it a bad game.
 
I've found if I keep my expectations for FPS games low and turn off half my brain I usually enjoy them. 🙂

Seriously, if Outcast is only a modernized version of Jedi Knight I'll be happy. The reviews on the net say the SP game is linear and somewhat ho-hum but MP is a blast.

Max Payne. Period. Now that is the current pinnacle of FPS. Great story, awesome graphics, non-linear gameplay, entertaining and informative cut scenes, cool weapons, superior AI...makes JK2 look like a 2D side-scroller in comparison. Compared to that this game is a quantum leap backwards.

What bugs me the most about this is that it is going to sell like mad because #1: JK1 was great and #2: it has the Star Wars name. This means that developers will be encouraged to forge ahead with this kind of monotonous, tedious, painful game design....and I dread that. I really thought that we were getting somewhere.

JK2 isn't horrible, but it is a disappointment after playing the first one. The cut scenes should have been live action & CGI like in the first. The AI needs to be worked on, several times I've had bots do thngs like just jumping in place and stopping all together. And the snipers in SP are just too damn good, they see you round a corner before you even do it. I also have a problem with keyboard keys sticking on even when I'm not pushing anything. I hope a patch is in the works, because it is still a good game, but it has the potential to be great.
 
First off, Max Payne isnt a FPS. Duh. Second, it is linear gameplay, I dont know how you can say it isnt? Lol. Third, the AI is not superior, it is basic. They do nothing special at all. Yes the graphcis are good, and its fun to play. But bullet time is the major selling point, without that it wouldnt be as fun. And the main character has a look on his face like hes taking a dump 24X7. And the story got flamed by many top magazines for being bad. It wasnt that great.😱

max payne is good but not great, i can count out a lot better games than that too....

everyone has different tastes for games, if you enjoy the game its fine. as for ai shooting their comrads in the back while fighting, goto a counterstrike server and see what HUMANS do when the FF is on. I lost count of the number of times some moron shot me in the back and killed me... and everyone clusters up in a firefight. There's always someone blocking your path in a big firefight, resulting you dying. Just go and see... 😛

The main thing is, the ai's not suppose act like elite special ops troopers, we wish they could but they're not.
maybe when JK3 comes.... 😀
 
Man this game is really love/hate. If you check EBGAMES reviews for example (which is very biased as many of the people actually review it before they have played the game) you'll see all 4/5 ratings or 1's ... there's not really an in-between.

After playing this game to (finally) level 7 where I have had the lightsaber for a level (and that's what this game is all about: lightsabers and force powers) I can't see how people can say this game is "horrible". How can it be like every other FPS when only Jedi Knight 1 and its expansion pack let you use force powers and a lightsaber!!?? The AI in this game is sometimes crappy (the stormtroopers either run towards you or side to side - the worst because they are hard as hell to hit with the slow-moving blaster), but it is quite fun.

I really like this game. The lightsaber attacks are very cool, the puzzles are damn hard and it's very addictive!

My only gripes are the load times (terrible on my P3 733 with original Radeon DDR LE; once I get back home to my P4 2.2 with GeForce 3 I'll be in heaven), and the fact that it's a bit choppy on my P3 sometimes. My friend's Athlon 1 GHz with GF3 handles it no problems.

I love how people are so quick to rip this game up after playing it for only a couple of hours (and especially before trying the multiplayer!).

If you really are worried this game will suck then wait for the review sites to get reviews of this game up, read them all and decide whether or not it looks worth it. Or even better, try out a friend's copy (if he will let you 😛).

LOL, good old CS. I remember those days. I used to be a LPB. Now my 56k modem leaves me with pings of 300-3000+. That's why I can't play JK2 online. Perhaps one day I'll see if my hacking and slashing skills are any good against real people (those bots are suckers for force grip).

Well that's strange, considering they're rendered IN GAME and the game uses the Quake 3 Team Arean engine. Which wasn't out in 1997...

Yes, the crabs were annoying. I'll give you that.

And Max Payne is about as linear as you can get. There's very few alternate paths in that game. I've found a couple in JK2 already (at least according to the walkthrough that I refer to when I'm stuck), and I'm not done with the second level.

Edit: It sounds like a lot of the frustrations you're having are things you'll only notice in the first few levels. Check out the Gamespot review here, they say the bad AI and the puzzles get better.

its that damn Quake III engine, it makes all games feel the same, and it definitely has its limitations.
 
ohh yeah, the AI SUCKS ASS! The stupid stormtroopers just run right in front of your face. How stupid is that.
 
The game is just too fast paced. I realize that Jedi can move really fast but this is insane for every one moves like they are on drugs. And Snipers and puzzles plus crabs are really really annoying. And finally story is same old revenge story (atleast sofar).

But despite all that, weilding the light saber is simply too cool and pushing/pulling people of ledges to their death in MP is even cooler 🙂

I am not addicted to the SP game like i was too Max Payne or OFP (even more so) but i like the MP and its potential

Firstly, the troopers "run toward" you b/c (as you will hear them say if u have sound), they are trying to encircle you. Granted, the AI is limited, esp when you can pick some troopers off long range, but close quarters is pretty good....and when you get the saber...drool.

Granted, the wanna-be headcrabs are silly, but not that bad. Overall, I think this game is a lot of fun, cant wait to try it out at a Lan party..

Dude are you HIGH Quake III feels nothing like MOHAA and that feels nothing like JK which feels nothing like Urban Terror a quake III mod...

So my question is why do you think all the Quake III engine games feel the same and were are you seeing limitations?

I only limitations I see are in the programers not the engine.
