More may be added to this list as the manufacturers own-up to their failures.

Please have a look at this article in the Imaging-Resource News article by Michael R. Tompkins who reports that "Visitors to this site will doubtless have noticed a common thread across several of our recent news items: We've reported on digital camera service advisories from no less than four manufacturers, with all four offering to fix certain problems experienced by their customers regardless of warranty status."

Great news for anyone affected. :D:D:D

Also, please note the last parragraph of the article that states...
(camcorders, PDAs, and other such products being outside the remit of our site, we're not including these in our list).

Very interesting. My Canon A60 doesn't seem to have this problem, but what if it happens in the future? Is there a way to tell if your model is ok or not?

Probably this is the case with Camcorders too...

My Canon Elura 50 Camcorder got into the exact same problem (I see very muddy picture with vertical lines) this summer (after app. 20 months of purchase). When I contacted Canon about this problem, they asked me to send it to Canon service location and they fixed the problem free of charge. I only paid app. $10 to ship it to Canon that's all.

Sounds like a major snafu with the CCD manufactorer... At least these companies are fixing it for free instead of denying any involvement. That's what I call service. Thanks OP

How do I find the manufacturing date on my Canon A70? So the moisture seeps through the CCD making the image blurry? Doesn't the moisture eventually evaporate? What about dead pixels? They should fix my dead pixels that seem to pop up now. I think I'm gonna submerge my camera in water and get it warrantied

No problems for me for both the A75 or P8. Wonder if they can just replace mines. The P8 is a bit scratched up. :)

Wow, a friend of mine just got done asking me about this problem she was having with her Nikon just a week ago. She'll be so happy.

It looks exactly like this on the preview screen, but also even when you download it to the computer. So, it's definately not the LCD. It's like all the colors became smeared up or something. Kinda artistic in a way.

Thanks so much for this. My A60 started doing this and I was at a loss of what to do. Then I found this thread before I could even contact cannon. Good looking out for us.

Sweet. My ZR65MC camcorder died a while ago. Lucky I didn't throw it out.

Still plays video, but the CCD is always jet black on record (even with the lens cap off).

Don't mistake the LCD monitor on the rear for the internal CCD which actually captures the image, turning those pixels into data.

"Of course, the million dollar question in some consumers' minds is whether it is safe to buy current digital cameras. We obviously don't have a crystal ball to look into the future with, but given the range of dates mentioned in Sony's advisory, it certainly sounds like this particular problem was actually dealt with from a design / manufacturing standpoint over a year ago. There thus doesn't seem to be any reason to hold off on purchasing current models. To the contrary, the responsible way in which this problem has been handled by the various companies involved bodes well for the future, should anything like this crop up again."

- Thats what im sure most people want to know...so it is safe to buy current cameras and im glad Sony, being as big as they are, took action against something they could of kept quiet about.
