Crysis 1 with mods

Holy crap, I never tried any mods for Crysis but I seriously want to give it a try now. Is this just modifying some configuration files or do you have to download additional content/texture packs for something like this?

Good thing crysis isn't a game that requires 60 FPS to feel fluid, but thank your for this post...it makes it easy to ignore people follwoing you down the wrong rabbit whole...

The amazing thing about Crysis was that even in the shipping game 'Very High' settings were not the best the game had to offer. There are still many options that are dialled down on very high that can be opened up further.

I agree that there are a couple games with some individual features that have examples that are better than Crysis. BF3 has some amazing lighting at times, same goes for Metro 2033. Taken as a whole package and what it delivers to your screen, nothing is close to Crysis/Warhead with heavy mods.

That is one thing that a lot of people complained about. In the Alpha previews, they showed it with everything. Later when it shipped, it was scaled back from what everyone seen, yet they choked on not being able to run it maxed out right from the start.

Thanks a lot for the links. Looks like a lot of individual mods created by a whole bunch of enthusiasts - I will definitely give it a shot when I get some time.

I understand what you are saying. It's better than being new and sucking though, which is the case with most games when compared to Crysis.

OK, please name 1 game on the PC that looks better than Crysis but still gets nearly 60 fps on a single high end GPU?

Metro 2033, BF3 and Witcher 2 won't give you 60 fps maxed out, and I can't think of any other game besides those 3 that has better graphics than Crysis.

I'm looking forward to it and I may slap another 680 in my system if it has the visuals to justify it. I've always enjoyed the gameplay in the Crysis series, especially Warhead so for me it will be worth buying an playing. Just remains to be seen if it's worth upgrading for.

My point is sure it's old, but the state of the art hasn't really progressed when you consider that except for the new Dx features, nothing's really gotten much better.

If Crysis was CPU bound to a great degree, then running something like an overclocked Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge processor would relieve the issue. But it doesn't. You need the best of the best graphics cards to get Crysis to 1080p/60fps, and that's something the CPU can't help.

Let's completely forgo the idea that Nvidia nor AMD may be spending much time on the driver side of things to optimise their new GPU architectures for a 5 year old game. Never mind crossfire scaling with new cards and focusing on newly released titles with a greater player base.

You don't like Crysis, we get it. It doesn't mean what you say is even remotely true however.

Funny, I play through Crysis 1 / WH every couple of months because they are awesome games (Wish I could say the same for crysis 2) and I never dip below 60 fps. Crysis was also created in 2007. I dare you to find a game even close from that time frame. Anyway, I have a hard time believing anyone would say that, because crysis was amazing graphically at release - and is still very good.

This thread reminds me why I hated crysis 2. Bland AI, no exploration, straight line level mechanics, bleh. Boy it looked nice though I guess. I use it (crysis 2) as a graphics benchmark and stress test for overclocking, thats about it.

You keep putting down the graphics in Crysis but you still haven't said what games run as well as Crysis given the graphics or what games you think actually look substantially better. It can't be BF3 based on this excellent video, where BF3 is not convincingly better. That leaves Witcher 2 or Metro 2033, both insanely demanding due to SSAA Uber Sampling in Witcher 2 and DOF+Tessellation in Metro 2033. So if Crysis 1/Warhead are dated, are you playing games from the future?

Once you add Mods, Crysis makes BF3 look like a 2007 game with Crysis being the 2011 game

I think those screenshots are from screenshot configs. Not sure if those would be playable. Either way, Crysis is still one of the most graphically impressive games out there. If they overhauled the lightning and updated a few textures it would still reign supreme.

Crysis still looks amazing today, given the age of the game that is an incredible achievement! The game is also a heck of a lot of fun, and is still fun even after finishing the entire game several times.

I personally would rate it in my top 3.

Alan Wake and BF3 look better and run better. Crysis is just poorly optimized and always was. No reason for any modern rig to struggle with it if they knew how to use the CPUs cores properly.
