The price is $99 in today's add with the ECS k7s5a PRO board and a bare CPU in Oregon.

Oregon has no sales tax. Generally, Frys sets higher sale price at Oregon. But eventually, consumer may pay less than California, a higher sale tax state.

It's quite often.

I had the pleasure of visiting Frys this past week while vacationing in San Diego. I decided to pick up one of the ECS combos (2000+) for $69. When I picked up the CPU at the store it didn't look right. I was going to ask for a different one but thought that they were new. WELL THEY ARE NOT. Lo and behold, when I went to try out the CPU on my system it did not work. I tried it on the ECS board....nothing. My current CPU (1400+) worked fine in both.

I live in NY. I just got off the phone with them...I am SOL unless I have someone walk in and exchange it within 15 days. I do have relatives in SD, but combining the shipping costs to get it there in time and then getting somone to go to the store...I guess I should just take the loss. I am extremely disappointed with Fry's. By the look of the store, it is obvious that they re-sell a lot of returned product, which may or may not work. Fry's can eat a dang.

Lol, whoa, 2 anecdotes in a row about how sorry Fry's is. For what it's worth, as a So Cal res who has lived by a Fry's for the last 4 years (2 minutes away in fact)...other than the mobo/cpu combos u're not missing much. I'm glad you realized it. To be honest, as a resident, the ONLY thing redeeming about shopping at Fry's is the liberal return policy. That said, they will still put you through the ringer to return a 2 dollar item...but such is the sacrafice for forgoing the 15% restocking fee that most shops charge for computer parts.

Agreed. You can return anything that doesn't work without too much hassle. With that said, I bought something new at Fry's, didn't even open the package & went to do the return. When I got to the line, the person tore open the unopened package. I told him that I didn't even open it. His reply, "we have to open everything, since some people have a shrink wrap machine & have bought & returned with different products inside. That's why they have to open everything."
