I thought this is a theoretically hot deal, and I also have a question about it.

The deal is this: Trade in an old game system and 10 games and get $100 off. They prorate the price if you have more or less games to trade in.
It seems like a good deal. He said they usually give $15 on a Dreamcast trade, which is crap, and they probably only give like $2-3 on most games, which is also crap, so this could potentially give you a good return if you have a system to trade.

Anyway, my question is:
Does anyone know how old of a system you can trade-in? I have a spare DC and a number of games, but I still don't feel that a DC that I could probably Ebay for $50 and 10 games that I could easily Ebay for $10 each is a very good value, and a terrible return on what I paid for them.

But I have a Genesis and about 15 games that I got for $10 at a flea market and if I could turn THAT into $100, I'd snap it up.
Anyone know if they'd take a Genesis under this promo?

that sucks, that is nowhere near 100 dollars! I cant belive they would only give 7 bucks for a ps1. They should sell it for that cheap.

Did you ask specifically about the $100 off promo? I specifically asked the guy in the store about a Dreamcast and he said flat-out a DC + 10 games = $100 off no matter what the actual trade-in value.
I would assume it would be good for at least that whole generation--PSX, DC, N64...

If i get a chance I'll call the one by me and ask for better details as well.

OK I called up my local EB near Philadelphia and the guy said:
Eligible systems: Dreamcast, PSX/PS1, N64.
Bring in 10 games + the system and you get $100 off PS2, XBox or GameCube.

He said the caveat is that the game must have the box and manual although that's really only an issue if you're trading in N64 games.
He also said that some games weren't eligible...mostly old sport games (NFL2k? hehe).

So it's defnitely a warm deal because they give you TERRIBLE trade-ins and you can turn some old unused hardware into $100 if you were planning on getting a next-gen console anyway. At least you can get some real value for your trade-in instead of their normal lowball amount.

I can't really call it a hot deal because I still think my spare DC and 10 games is worth $100 or more.

Jzero:

I didn't ask about the ten games included since I don't have ten games. My post just refers to trading in a console only.

$25.00 off for an XBOX or PS2 is hot in my book. Thanks for the post!

Cheers!

The DC is still cool and has great games. Take more than $100 for me to part with it and the 100 or so backed up games.

Too bad you can't use any system.

I still have my ATARI 2600 and probably like 30+ games out in my garage ;)

Has anybody tried the N64 console with controller only, no games? I have to drive a pretty good distance out of my way to get their so I was just wondering.

I have an old Colecovision (you heard me!) with 2 games (did they ever make anymore???). That has got to be worth $100000 by now since i might be the only person on this planet stupid enough to buy this console for $300 back in the early 80s.

I had one of those too but really consider it a computer instead of a pure gaming machine. It had a keyboard, ability to connect a floppy drive and so on, although I just had the data cassette palyer with mine.

You get like $10 for a Complete N64. If you have a lot of things, I'd try Babbagges (or Software Etc - they are the same I believe) since EB only takes back the full hardware and games, no accessories. So now I have to go to Babbages tomorrow to unload my N64 Memory Cards and such, Probably good for $5. Not much of a deal, but I got $70 for stuff I haven't touched in years, mainly some launch Dreamcast titles, and my N64 stuff which was in the attack hidden in a suitcase. If you want some prices, I'll list them - they are pretty low though. ;)

I just did this deal tonight. It worked out great! I traded old games such as WCW Nitro, Madden 97, Madden 99, and other stuff. The guy told me that I was getting a great deal because most of these games usually traded in for 50 cents, 1 dollar, etc.

My receipt looked like
PS - 20.00
WCW Nitro - 8.00
Madden 97 - 8.00
And so on...
My final cost was 109.00 w/ tax.

It's only good for PSX, N64, and DC systems/games. I already have an Xbox, and I figured since I had a spare PS in the closet, I might as well pick up a PS2. By the time the GC comes out with Metroid Prime, Zelda, and Mario, the Cube should be 99 bucks anyway. Also, if you pick up preowned games, they'll give you 10% off the first one, 15% off for two, and 25% off for three when you buy the system. I said no thanks and walked over to KB and picked up MGS2 for 24.99!

Hope it works for you!

I called this morning EB Games in my area here in NYC to confirm. This deal is good with only one drawback. For this deal to work for you MUST have the manuals for the games that you are trading in. Not for nothing most of the games I purchased were used games from them with NO MANUALS. It's like a catch 22. Anybody out there trade there games without this hassle. LMK

GB/GBC/GBA games have fairly high trade/in value no box/ins. (~$5 as I remember).

PC games do not require box for full trade-in value...
