I had closed beta keys they sent me, i didnt even sign up after the DAOC mess...

Just for shits and giggles i went to download the files and give the beta a shot... download files are dead links... go to the beta forums... "must be signed up to view"... go to signup page... "signup is disabled"...

And that was the end of my warhammer online experience.

Which is complete bullshit unless they are counting PC only games. And even then WAR being PC Game of E3 '08 is a bit of a stretch.

Yes PC, which is why I included that disclaimer :)

They gave 1 for each console, an overall console and a PC for 5 total picks. Said that from watching this in action "the grind was gone and it looks like the MMO is returning to just being fun", or a close approximation of that.

When I said PC Only, I meant they didnt count mutliplatform PC games, which they obviously didnt.

Even based on PC exclusivity, Im hard pressed to say WAR was the best.

Jeebus, 24 classes? Look at how much trouble Blizz has balancing just 9 classes for WoW pvp. 24 seems completely unmanageable.

EQ1 had 16 and EQ2 has 24 if I'm not mistaken.

DAoC has 45 classes ... nothing compares to it :)

and it was never balanced

that said, daoc was a lot of fun until toa and nf showed up. mythic just couldn't figure out that all 90% of its players wanted was a level 50 battleground, which we fashioned ourselves out of emain. unfortunately, the fact that there would be 100s of albs and mids hanging around in emain all the time, combined with the fact that hibernia was a crappy realm, meant that the hibs never had any chance at the game.

then they dropped grind-fest overpowering toa on us, then they turned rvr into a crappy siege fest with nf. in 6 months they turned a somewhat flawed but fun game into a giant steaming pile.

i really do miss ninjaing keeps in midgard with a group of 7 paladins and a minstrel. "wtf? why didn't we get any guard spam that our keep was about to fall?"

i think the most fun i ever had with an mmorpg was in UO. buggy as hell but that just added to it. and i still think the skill system was better than crappy leveling (we have computers, we can calculate minute skill improvements in real time, we don't need pen and paper levels anymore!). you want to do more damage? pick up a sword and start using it, you get better. want to be a better spell caster? get some reagents and start practicing. no allocating skill points or just spending money at a trainer.

Oh cool, so you were at E3 and got to personally play all of the demos they had? Because if you didn't, you're an idiot for trying to make a statement about an event that you didn't even attend, and about a game that you haven't even played.

Keep your stupid comments to yourself unless you have something to back them up. Its funny, because EVERY hands-on review I have read about the beta, which is about every review on the internet...has said that this is THE next big MMO..which is saying alot.

Let's keep the personal flaming out of this thread. Do it again mharr7 and you can have some time off- PC Gaming Moderator Oakenfold

Vanguard was the next big thing. AoC was the next big thing. WAR is going to do well, but it certainly didnt deserve PC Game of Show at E3. WAR is just the next derivative in polishing a turd. EQ->DAoC->WoW->WAR.

And yes I have the collecters edition on pre-order. You are going to be seriously disappointed, even WARs developers/publishers are severely downplaying expectations.
