I saw a show about the military using tomahawks on one of the science channels. I keep looking at them every now and again. It would even be useful in a hallway or bathroom.

I have to admit I would shit my pants if someone was coming at me with a tomahawk. It certainly has a high intimidation factor.

I just watched Last of the Mohicans and i agree with you.

This is not a proper weapon for in-home defense. It requires wide swings or overhead swings to use and you simply won't have room in many locations indoors.

A real indoor weapon would be short sword, or any other short stabbing weapon. It allows you to keep your opponent at arms reach and work in narrow hallways etc.

Or.... you could just carry a gun.
Don't take yourself too seriously.

Would be an interesting fight. My first instinct would be a swift kick to the stomach and then I would proceed to kill. You know, kinda like when a dog runs at you. Just kick the damn thing. But that's a whole other animal (no pun intended).

I fought a guy off once who had a knife. In fact when he went to come down with the thing I made him cut himself.

I was at HomeDepot last week checking out their axes, and saw this...

Not sure what it's good for besides splitting skulls, but I kind of want one :^D

Curious thing to find at HomeDepot.

Pretty sure thats for the Tacticool Suburban Commandos.

Those people scare me more than rednecks.

That actually does look like a pretty nice light axe to me.

I have one I inherited from my grandfather that is a bit old school, but you can about shave with the thing. It holds an edge well, after a lot of use over the years.

I found a framing axe like that on a job. It's in really good shape, but I don't have a lot use for it at work.

My main axe is full size, with the handle cut down to be 18" from top of head to bottom of handle. It's dull as hell. I use it for the hammer mostly, and scrape pavement, or cut roots with the blade edge. I found that one too. Was looking for a control point with a metal detector, got a hit, and dug up an old axe head. Put on a new handle, and it's been my buddy for almost 20 years. I recently put a new handle on it.

I usually just use a Faskars splitting axe for bonfires, or a cheap old hatchet for overall utility.

This thread makes me want to go chop a random tree down just for fun. Used to do it all the time as a kid with just a hatchet my grandpa gave me. I only cut down dead trees though. On serious note though, I really want a wood stove for supplementary heat. It would make a fun outing to go cut down a couple trees every now and then to help heat my house in winter. It's actually legal too, you just need to get a permit for like 60 bucks. I'd be using a chainsaw though, as I'd have to cut it in logs too. Imagine in the old days having to do all that by hand?
