Is it going to matter if my impreza is just a regular N/A model? Also does the knob come with the kit, or is that something I will need to buy seperately?

You have a knob on your existing shifter, no? 😕

Haha yes of course I do, I just wanted a nicer one. Something shiny and without the gear numbers on it.
So I can go ahead and get an 02-07 WRX type short shift and 5 speed knob then. Do you suggest I get the bushings or is it okay with out them? I don't have access to a lift.

Well, the two bushings that fit on the shifter itself will be easy. Its that rear bushing that will be a problem.
EDIT: You forgot the snap ring pliers that make removing the shifter mucho easier.

Get a Kartboy. And yes it's rather easy to do, but if you go for all the bushings then it gets a touch more complicated. However I just did the shifter for simplicity and it greatly helps things but there is still a lot of slack in there.
Basic instructions:
Unscrew knob
Pull shifter shroud off(just kind of pops out when you grab the farthest back silver part)
Unscrew the shifter from the linkage and then pry it out
Tap new shifter into the socket (will be kind of hard to do, so hit it at an angle. Might need to use a rubber mallet.)
Put all back together.

Thanks for the tips guys. Just purchased a Kartboy knob. Waiting another week or two for the short shifter. What other small little things can I do that will spice up my soobie a little bit, that are easy installs and won't kill my wallet ?

Well what do you want to do?
The short shifter with bushings will make it feel like a new car.

Not sure if I can even do bushing right now.. I don't have a lift at my disposal at the moment. Can it be done easily without a lift?
Nothing flashy really, just some upgrades to the stock parts. For example.. I replaced the CD player with a pioneer deck..Got an amp, sub, etc. I am not really looking for like.. a new exhaust or anything, I think it would be waste of money trying to upgrade engine and what not on an N/A impreza.

On a regular ol impreza? This isnt a WRX or an Sti or anything...is it worth spending all that cash on it? Esp. when I plan to more than likely sell this within the next 4-5 years?

Shortens your shifts so you shift quicker and hopefully more precise. Bushings make it more firm and feel much better.
A short shifter with bushings was the first mod I did for my car and an awesome mod. Makes the feel so much better of the shifts. When you get a short shifter, after months you'll want to go even shorter.

Dude, I know what a short throw shifter does, I've had them on various cars I've owned over the years. I'm wondering what a shoft throw shifter does. Can anyone answer that for me? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
Is this a trick question? Do you want to know the mechanics behind it something?Originally posted by: JulesMaximus
