Don't know how I missed this thread but those patches are no joke. My dad has been on fentanyl transdermals for ~12 years now, ranging from 12.5 to 100mcg. He steadily built up to them so even when he was on 100s for a short time he handled it fine, but a couple years ago he was on 25mcgs. I came in at like 4am one weekend half drunk still and got undressed and fell into bed. I didn't wake up til about 9pm the next day, because I had inadvertently stepped on one of his patches. I felt like absolute shit, but this was a mostly used 25mcg patch on the sole of my foot as a 200lb guy. Not a good day for me :|

I figure he pulled it off and dropped it as he was sleepwalking, which he has done several times. Nothing sucks more than sleepwalking and pulling off a fresh patch that night. You lose that medication, and have to go through withdrawals til the next patch day comes up, cause they don't exactly hand out extrs in case you lose them...

Wow, is that a true story? That's pretty amazing, it must be damn strong stuff.

Can someone clear up some of the acronyms on that drug info forum? I'm confused reading threads like:
Before someone says use the search engine; swim has and has read almost every post related to this subject. No one has posted specifically about this. Swim was just wondering what other swiys thought about the best way to use a Mylan fentanyl patch compared to sublingual or transdermal.

Presumably this is some legal thing to pretend they're not talking about their own drug use? I'm guessing SWIM == Some Woman I Met? Can't figure out SWIYS?

Thanks. Does this really protect people from the law? I mean, in the thread I was reading I think you could easily make a case in court that the person couldn't possibly have been talking about anyone but themselves:
Swim would of posted a poll if swim had the privelages but swim doesnt so, swim just wondered what others swims who have used the mylan patch what they thought was the best way to use the mylan type patch.

I assume that the forum is legally protected by enforcing this type of language, but surely the users aren't protected?

fentanyl is crazy strong. Occasionally there is an outbreak of it into the drug scene. Weeks after it gets out to the drug using society, you will begin to hear about the deaths from OD'ing on fentanyl. It is a VERY VERY strong opiate. Most people who mess with it will end up dying. Usually the deaths occur on a college campus where some young kid who has no idea what he is getting into takes wayyyy too much.

Yes it is. This shit is NOT to be messed with.

One of the main dangers of wearing these patches is getting too hot. If you're wearing one and you go out in 100 degree weather and start working hard, you'll probably wind up in the hospital. I know because my dad's been there more than once. once that patch heats up it starts sending a lot more fentanyl through. Match that with some dehydration and a bit of fatigue and you can go south pretty quickly. Luckily as long as you're not alone someone should notice and get you cooled off ASAP

If anyone has any questions, I've never used them but I've watched my father use them for a dozen years now so I'm pretty familiar. Dunno if anyone else in this thread has been giving any info on them (I aint reading 13 pages)

And The OP confused me a bit, he said something like he cut it open and squeezed the gel out? It doesn't really work quite like that, it's not like squeezing ketchup out of a packet. It's a bit more like those sticky mouse traps, I'd say...

I'm glad you're okay but I gotta admit I lol'ed at this story. And it frames the story of how lucky Zane is to have come through this.

all things considered, I hope ZJ "sees the light" now and becomes one of those people that can become a counselor and obviously see through people's fake "wanting to get better"ness hidden in the "want to get high again"ness and can really help people in the long run

i had a good friend who ODed on one of those and almost died as well...maybe this will be the thing that snaps you out of it...it was for him

There's a coupla different kinds.

No, it's a total joke. If those posts were going to be used for evidence, "SWIM" (Someone who isn't me) which means the opposite of what it says, or any of the other acronyms won't mean dick.

My guess is that it's done because it's hard to feel comfortable posting something like "last night I used Heroin" on a public forum, so saying something like "SWIM" at least gives the illusion of deniability.

I assume that the forum is legally protected by enforcing this type of language, but surely the users aren't protected?

I would doubt this too. I don't know if it's been tested in court, but if some jurisdiction wanted to go after the forum for facilitating illegal activity, I just can't imagine that "SWIM SWIM SWIM SWIM" all over the place would do anything at all.

Also, ZJ, I know you have a reputation here, but this story reads a little too real for me to think it was made up.

I'm glad that you survived and I hope you recover. Good luck.

And I'll also just point out that this never would have happened if narcotics were legal, as they should be.

How do you figure? Would he have taken less?

Do people that want to use nicotine smoke cigarettes or chew on nicotene patches? Users wouldn't do these rediculous things if narcotics were widely available in forms that are easy to take correctly.

Not sure what you mean by take correctly. The fentanyl patch is designed to provide a constant level of pain relief over a couple days. This is accomplished by sticking it on your skin and leaving it there.

What he did is not the correct way or reason to use a fentanyl patch.

Fentanyl is available for IV, transdermal (patch), and transmucosal (lozenge) administration. If you mean there should be a pill you can just swallow, there isn't - probably due to a high rate of alterations (aka metabolism) done to the fentanyl molecules by your liver, rendering them ineffective before they reach the rest of your body.
