Does not matter.

Employers can not tell employees how to practice their religion.

Oh it most certainly matters if your 'practice' runs afoul of a generalized policy that the business has against certain behavior. Using your logic, I could walk around my office stoning any adulterers and my boss couldn't fire me because I'm practicing my religion.

Your employer cannot fire you for being a Christian, but they can definitely fire you for doing things that bring discredit on the business as that is a general policy that is not targeted towards Christians.

They can sue if they want, but they will be thrown out of court in short order.

I would say morality is pretty inherent to any religion.

At least as inherent as getting same-sex marriage to is to being gay.

I was unaware that morality required screaming about demonic ideologies. Who knew!?

You cannot be fired for your beliefs, you can be fired for your actions. Because you have the memory of a goldfish, I'm sure your next response will be "getting married is an action!" We have already covered that in other threads, so don't bother.

Lets see an employer fire a orthodox jew for practicing orthodox Judaism.

Employer - "since orthodox jews discriminate against women, you are fired."

How many Muslims are fired for their views on gays and women?

Well except for the whole murder thing...

Funny that you compare a prayer rally to murdering people. I think that says a lot about you.

Morality requires telling right from wrong. Godly from demonic.

Of course as a liberal I can understand why you have difficulty understand issues of morality 😉

Yes indeed we have covered your hypocrisy.

Getting married is an action. Holding a prayer rally is an action. There is no difference between the 2.

Well I will be sure to inform all those Christians who don't spend their days screaming on street corners that they are not fulfilling their moral duties.

I find it completely unsurprising that you find such common cause with the corner yelling crazies here in NYC. hahaha! Maybe you should join them, you'd fit right in!

The courts disagree.

BTW thats a stereotype the majority of muslims are pro women's rights especially the women 🙂

But I don't know of any muslim tv host, there could be and you might not know because they aren't out there screaming into a microphone.

He wasn't fired for his views, he was fired for his actions.

It is quite likely that if an orthodox jew was going around publicly stating that "women are the enemy attacking America" and that "the difference between men and women are that women enslave you", he would be fired.

I wonder how many of these jews lost their jobs; not a single woman was allowed.

Chances are none, because our discrimination is towards Christians.

Martin Bashir is a Muslim. Funny thing is that he lost his job after saying bad things about Sarah Palin. So in a way, exactly what TH asked about has already happened.

You act is if businesses are in the business of employing people -- they're not. You're speaking as if we have the right to keep our jobs regardless of our actions.

That's ridiculous.

It is politically correct to fire Christians.

It is not politically correct to fire anyone else.

1.) Because you live in Texas, you might not realize that the vast majority of those Orthodox Jews are employed by other Orthodox Jews.

2.) Attendance at a single gender event is not an act of discrimination by the attendees. Or are you saying that because everyone who has ever attended a bachelor or bachelorette party should be fired for discrimination against the other gender?

You're a racist who wants special protections for Christians.

A pixel is not very big either. When if you get enough pixels you finally get a picture.

Subway decision to stop selling pork.
Challenges to French banning head covers, whatever they are called.
Muslims protesting in the streets of London saying England can go to hell.
Muslims students in Canada getting time out of school to pray.
Sharia controlled zones in London.
Parts of France police will not go into.
Aussie airline Qantas bans pork in submission to Islamic sharia law
Kraft Foods’ Cadbury Easter products submitted to sharia law
Plan for Muslim only housing project in Australia.
Banks in London to offer sharia law styled loans.
Student loans are to be offered interest free as with sharia law.
Muslims Want Halal Food in NYC Schools.
Muslim Group Pushes for Taxpayer-Funded Halal Food in NYC Public Schools.
France being pushed to offer Halal Food in public schools.

How far do we go in the name of accommodation?

Y'know what? I just can't get my back up for another insipid 'Texashiker and Nehalem don't understand the First Amendment' thread. We have this every other week and the outcome is always the same. The two get laughed down after the requisite amount of post-count-padding masturbation but never concede that what they've posted makes no sense. Then, like some weird disease, they go into remission, only to fester up a few days later.

This thread just isn't worth it.

You're a racist who wants special protections for Christians.

Special protections for them to force their views on people.

We aren't just talking about being left alone here; he wants all other religions, ideas and opposers to Christianity, wiped out.

Better yet, he wants no blood on his hands - which is why he longs for wars to break out, to murder and kill people, in the name of an America that is Christian and in sync with his ideas of what the world should be like.

I take issue with the overreaching by employers to dictate what their employees say in their lives away from work. In both the OP and the link provided by Retro Rob the employer ended the working relationship due to things that "conflicted" with the employers views.

Businesses as a whole take away far too much of their employees freedom of speech. Slander and libel are wholly separate legal issues, but to fire an employee because of remarks on their own personal blog that are accurate but disparaging towards the company/organization or because the employees' views in a non-work related activity border on crazy is just overreach and fascist.

It's like there is a certain group of posters here that have some kind of glitch that makes them incapable to see their hypocrisy or the big picture

Oh yea now I remember

Given her well-established reputation as a world class idiot,

yep even with the rest of the text it was spot on

Ok back on topic...

I also agree that it is overreaching when people are fired for facebook/blog posts, but it would also be prudent on our behalf to keep in mind what sort of world we live in.

But I also think there is a difference when political views negatively impact a company's business interests.

Orthodox Jews discriminate against women all the time.

You're a racist who wants special protections for Christians.

I want equal protections for Christians.

You can't be fired for practicing your religion if the employer knows about it when hired. You can be fired if you bring it up after you're hired.

It is politically correct to fire Christians.

It is not politically correct to fire anyone else.

You would be correct if employers had laws that applied only to religion, but last I signed an offer letter, policies applied to anyone accepting the offer....not just religious people.

In fact, they don't know your religious affiliation because they are barred from asking.

You're so full of fail at this point.
