But you have to realize that political activism can reflect badly on the organization.

Would you expect a Christian organization to employ an atheist who actively supports the end of all religious beliefs, and publicly shares his views that all religious people are ignorant?

A Christian organization is presumably in the business of spreading Christianity. It would seem rather hard for an Atheist to do that.

HGTV is in the business of homes and gardens. Don't see how opposition to same-sex marriage makes it more difficult to flip houses.

Ok I see what you're saying. Just as long it's clear that what happened with Duck Dynasty and what is happening here is not related.

It is related.

Both are TV shows. Both have people that express homophobic views by their hosts/characters.

One keeps their show. The other does not. Therefore, the claim that you will lose your job because of expressing homophobic views is false.

Since they signed the contract they subject themselves to the network's interpretation of what those things may be. If HGTV decides they are no longer in line with their goals and values then its termination time. Media companies build in great latitude for themselves in all these contracts since one incident can cause enormous PR and financial damage.

Fair enough. And I suppose these television contracts would really have you by the balls too, in order for them to keep you being the good little soldier they want you to be.

You forgot Duck Dynasty - they remained untouched, still have their jobs and still have their show, merchandise, followers, viewers (the ones that didn't care or agreed with what was said) and supporters.

Yes, DD is still there, but only because they had such strong ratings, otherwise the network would have been forced to drop them by the PC police. There was a big outrage-fest by lib idiots for a while until they realized it wasn't going to work.

My issue was never about losing your job for homophobic views, it was about if it is right for them to do so.

Just about any company can fire you for doing things that make them look bad. Most states are at will employment states which means your employer can fire you for any reason or no reason. The only exceptions to this (broadly) are that they can't fire you for your sex, race, religion, etc.

Yes, DD is still there,

Yeah - I stopped right there.

Everything else after that is an opinion/view; something both anti and pro same sex people are entitled to,.. as well as those who support or oppose those people with those views.

They are what they are, and each side has it's rights to say what they believe in, with business owners making the appropriate decisions they feel is necessary.

Period.

Thanks for stopping by.

Because its more than just his views he is an activist. That would probably not go well with many of HGTV viewers.

The issue is that liberals have show that being an activist is irrelevant. If you ever even made a political donation to a non-liberal you are fair game to have your livelihood attacked.

So for instance say leading a prayer rally?
David Benham led a prayer rally, Charlotte 7:14, organized with his twin brother outside the 2012 Democratic National Convention to protest “abortion on demand,” “no-fault divorce,” “pornography and perversion,” “adultery,” and “demonic ideologies” taught at public schools and universities.

They're in the business of making money. I don't know if those brothers would hurt that, but I find it difficult to disagree with a company who chooses to distance itself from two guys who have those sort of public views, and they don't seem willing to scale it back.

You can be pro-life and pro-traditional marriage and still work in this country. That can change if your activism brings negative pub to your employer, and cost them money.

That is not your problem; it's the decision of the busines owner (TV network) to do what they want/need to do to operate.

If you don't like it, sure, you are entitled to bash the TV network, but, you can't lose your shit over the people demanding the heads of the people they don't like because of what they said; because just as you support civil rights, freedom of speech and herp-a-derp, the opposers of what was said have every right to speak up.

Go after HGTV for not being like A&E and supporting their TV show hosts.

Yep, unless you are arguing that screaming at people about "demonic ideologies" and "perversion" is a requirement to be a Christian. Knowing how stupid you are, this is a distinct possibility.

Does not matter.

Employers can not tell employees how to practice their religion.

Ooooh!! I get my own TV show!! And, I won't lose it, no matter what I say or do!!

This is great!!

Kids, look forward to the premier of The Mr. Rape And Guns Show!!

I would say morality is pretty inherent to any religion.

At least as inherent as getting same-sex marriage to is to being gay.
