I'll bet you your next zoloft prescription that there is language in the termination section of their contract that includes a reference to doing/saying things that reflect badly on the network.
Does a contract trump civil rights?

But you have to realize that political activism can reflect badly on the organization.
Would you expect a Christian organization to employ an atheist who actively supports the end of all religious beliefs, and publicly shares his views that all religious people are ignorant?
Ok I see what you're saying. Just as long it's clear that what happened with Duck Dynasty and what is happening here is not related.
Since they signed the contract they subject themselves to the network's interpretation of what those things may be. If HGTV decides they are no longer in line with their goals and values then its termination time. Media companies build in great latitude for themselves in all these contracts since one incident can cause enormous PR and financial damage.
You forgot Duck Dynasty - they remained untouched, still have their jobs and still have their show, merchandise, followers, viewers (the ones that didn't care or agreed with what was said) and supporters.
It is related.
Both are TV shows. Both have people that express homophobic views by their hosts/characters.
One keeps their show. The other does not. Therefore, the claim that you will lose your job because of expressing homophobic views is false.
Fair enough. And I suppose these television contracts would really have you by the balls too, in order for them to keep you being the good little soldier they want you to be.
Yes, DD is still there,
Because its more than just his views he is an activist. That would probably not go well with many of HGTV viewers.
Just about any company can fire you for doing things that make them look bad. Most states are at will employment states which means your employer can fire you for any reason or no reason. The only exceptions to this (broadly) are that they can't fire you for your sex, race, religion, etc.
David Benham led a prayer rally, Charlotte 7:14, organized with his twin brother outside the 2012 Democratic National Convention to protest abortion on demand, no-fault divorce, pornography and perversion, adultery, and demonic ideologies taught at public schools and universities.
Hopefully the brothers will sue HGTV for violating their civil rights.
A Christian organization is presumably in the business of spreading Christianity. It would seem rather hard for an Atheist to do that.
HGTV is in the business of homes and gardens. Don't see how opposition to same-sex marriage makes it more difficult to flip houses.
My issue was never about losing your job for homophobic views, it was about if it is right for them to do so.
Does a contract trump civil rights?
We have a civil right to have a program aired on HGTV starring ourselves? Why wasn't I notified?
So for instance say leading a prayer rally?
Yep, unless you are arguing that screaming at people about "demonic ideologies" and "perversion" is a requirement to be a Christian. Knowing how stupid you are, this is a distinct possibility.

Ooooh!! I get my own TV show!! And, I won't lose it, no matter what I say or do!!
Hopefully the brothers will sue HGTV for violating their civil rights.
You are being obtuse.
You are being obtuse.
We have a civil right to get a TV show? Damn, my civil rights have been abused for years now.

My irony meter just incinerated itself.
