First off, I'd like to see benchmarks with no AA/AF...I don't use those anyways just because I'm not that picky. Second, there will most likely be a good amount of programming before it is released, so we can expect some better framerate and then maybe some patches to clear it up even more.

Oh, and believe me, there are many many many more people that went out to buy SC:CT for PC than all of us on these forums...and they know nothing about hardware, so that's how the game sold. Shader models would mean nothing to those people.

look at the very first pages of the test .... they are there here

Real choice screenshot, if I took a pic of Farcry right up facign a wall, you would say it doesn't look too good. For the following link, click see it in action under the exclusive trailer.

Granted the game doesn't blow away current gen games like Doom 3, but it by no means
looks terrible.

Look at Minimum Framerates

It can be concluded that no single card, including the GTX, is capable of playing this game smoothly at 1024x768 4AA/16AF in multiplayer.

Also

"Unfortunately, the new beta version of the game has some lighting problems if full-screen antialiasing is enabled, so the results of the ?eye candy? mode are of a purely theoretical interest." - xbitlabs

Even in the firing squad article, none of the 6800 cards were able to pull above 50 framerates so I dont know why you are dissing x850xt pe. It's only natural that nvidia is faster in some games and ATI in others. It seems this game benefits from nvidia technology, whether it is stencil shadows or soft shadows. Either way, major recoding has to be done if they plan on releasing it to the market since majority of gamers do not have x850xt or 6800gt series.

Either the video card companies have become very lazy, or the rate game system requirements increase has increased by a large margin.

Or $5 an hour paid outsourced programmers do an awesome job at coding :)

You are a moron. How does a $600 card compare with a $300 card??

I will give you that nVidia has the high end completely wrapped up, but thats not where the big sales are. The big sales are in the $300 and lower range, and ATI is still competing well.

Yep, I actually will play this game on my X800XL. I am guessin that performance will be up and I can stand 1280*1024 w/no AA/AF if need be :) The movie looked cool....

You are a fanboy. The ati card is running 12 fps.. thats a 60% advantage to the 7800. Lets look at a playable resolution... 1024 4xaa 8xaf softshadow 41 vs 29 a 12 fps advantage 30% to the nvidia card. 6800gt 28 fps ROFL.

I refuse to believe that this game runs this poorly across the board once you start turning up a little detail. It won't sell if the mainstream can't play it!

Big deal...

That's not impressive at all.. Not for a brand new $600 release..

granted the last gen cards are struggling ( especially ATI ) 45 is nothing to be excited about..

I wonder why they only benched with 4x AA and 8x AF...

Yeah no sh!t rollo, if the new generation nvidia cards can barely play the game how can you expect last gen ATI cards to play it?

I don't personally care if last gen ATI can play it.

I posted this because:
A. A GITG title can't even be played on ATI hardware. (irony)
B. It's a good indication of why 7800s are a good buy and useful to have.

I dont know about any of you, but I have no intention playing this game. Just gives me another reason not to buy a 7800. Im happy with my X800 ATM, im playing BF2, WoW, and CSS without any problems.

good indication of why the 7800 is a good buy? i know personally i can't afford to drop 600 on a video card, but if i was rich enough to be able to, i'd be pretty pissed at the fact an upcoming game has already brought said new card to it's knees already. i have both nvidia and ati cards so i go with whoever gives the best performance for the price.

rollo your a moron. a 7800 is a good buy?

the makers of this game are incredibly retarded to put something out that isn't even playable on the highest end last gen cards. To require 6800GT SLI and above is simply stupid and they are shooting themselves in the foot. You are one of the handful of people to actually buy a 7800, and don't think many more will follow you because they won't. The PC gaming industry is becoming more and more niche because of the incredible costs of keeping up and maintaining. To require a $600 for playable framerates is downright idiotic.

LOL

I guess the makers of Battlefield 2 don't believe you, because SLI or 7800 are all that run it well?

I think nV OEMS are going to sell LOTS of 7800s. For what they are, they're cheap.

BF2 runs very well on my 6800U with very high setttings (but i dont like these type of games anyhow), i very much doubt my card wont play F.E.A.R but i hope Nvidia sorted me out with new card by then as i already said no to the GTX as i dont want it and i need AGP.

Obv GPU is only 1 part of my PC, and a lot rests in games on the rest of PC.

Rollo it isn't just SLI or 7800 that run BF2 well, X800XL give you playable framerates at 1280x960 and the X850XTPE will at 1600x1200. BF2 is totally different from FEAR, in FEAR nothing can handle ut except for a $600+ set up

Wow..

Let me tell you how excited I that I can play FEAR @ 19fps on my new $600 ( week old investment )

I had a 6800GT and i have a x850xt now and they both wouldn't play it at my native resolution. On the flip side, I can play HL2 and such @ 1680x1050 4XAA8xAF..

Look at the screenshots, they SUCK. The game is either POORLY coded, or we just pay way to much money for hardware...Tell me again why I would want to play FEAR, let alone buy a 7800GTX ($1200 ) SLI system to do it.

Oh that's right, I wouldn't want to.

First, I'd like to say that I'm a bit of an Nvidia fanboy.
second, Rollo you're an idiot. Really,I had some respect for you before, but you are almost a big a fanboy as Porkster and Dothan.
You're saying how the 7800GTX is such a great buy when you can only play this game at 1600*1200 4*AA 8*AF with a 1200$ rig, wohoo GJ nvidia. Then you say how the X850XT sucks and the 7800GTX is so much better, but you forget that the x850xt card is only a refresh card to another card that was released A YEAR AGO, and the 7800GTX was released last week, and it can't play this game perfectly at 1600*1200 full settings. actually, the 7800GTX can't even run the game with soft shadows, and it's a WEEK OLD. Thank god a 600$ card can play new games at 19 FPS. You need 2 7800GTX in SLI to play this game at full settings (with soft shadows) at 34 fps.
*gets 1200$*

Monolith is still hard at work on tweaking F.E.A.R. though, so we?ll just have to wait and see how the final results play out once the game is available.

They damn well better be ;)

If no one can really crank up the eye candy, it better have some real good game play.

To early for me to get hyped about this game

Game developers are going to have to list minimum system specs AND max allowable resolution with said specs soon. I see a Class Action consumer suit in the works.

When ever I look at most minimum specs listed on a game box, I have to laugh.
