Rollo uses 1600x1200 8x/4x doesn't he? Uh-oh, it looks like his brand new $1200 video setup runs that at a slideshow. How's that for "future proof"?

It's interesting FEAR is another Soft Shadows game as well- with usable soft shadows up to 12X9 4X AA on a 7800SLI rig.
LOL, so no AF for a $1200 setup now? Have you decided we don't need AF again, ala 5800U fetish days?

Watching you doing the nVidia dance is really quite comical Rollo. What's even funnier is that you actually appear to genuinely believe there's nothing flawed with your logic.

Of course you didn't explain that this was at 16X12, and the fps are 12 vs 19, so that 7fps represents a 58% improvement.

Is this true BJC112? Did you really try to pull that one off? LOL...

I'm all cool with SLI, but $1200 to play this game is WAY too much. This is just a small step in gaming graphics but a HUGE step in price to play. If I need $1200 just for the graphics cards to play a game, it better look like the Final Fantasy movie! :|

I'm going to take my little 6800GT and have some fun now playing some old school UT. :)

As is watching you rationalize why you don't really need high end computer gaming equipment because being able to cool it with a Zalman is all you care about BFG.

Someone once told me, "If you can stand that fugly image quality, that card is ok". I'm returning the phrase to you ol buddy-
If you can stand the lame settings you're forced to run at, more power to you. You'll be richer in the long run.

Him using a Zalman cooler has nothing to do with the fact that F.E.A.R. is visually UNimpressive and runs like ass.. Especially on the beloved 7800... A $600 ( 1 week old ) release..

For you to try and justify a 7800GTX over a current ATI offering ( ON THIS GAME ) is down right foolish..

You don't ACTUALLY know a confirmed release date, so performance may be significantly better..

The game looks horrible, and will cost you a arm and a LEG to run..

Don't buy a 7800 to run 7fps faster than a x850..

Uh, no. The X800 XL is roughly just as high-end as a 6800U and with the imminent release of the R520 you'd have to be a real fanboy to blindly invest in a 7800 SLI setup without waiting. In the meantime I'll gladly enjoy the sound of a quiet system.

Right back atcha sparky because you certainly aren't going to be running your usual settings anytime soon on your $1200 video setup, barely more than a few days old I might add.

But don't worry, I'm sure you'll continue to pimp soft shadows at AFx0, AAx0 and 1024x768 as a solid investment and testament to nVidia's superiority.

Look at the screenshots dude, THEY SUCK. Show me a game that looks great, and DOESN'T run well..

There is no way in hell that these numbers represent how the final game will play. If the X800/6800 generation of cards can barely play it, then what about the other 99% of pc gamers who don't own high end cards? I'm sure something will be done about the performance...

First off, I'd like to see benchmarks with no AA/AF...I don't use those anyways just because I'm not that picky. Second, there will most likely be a good amount of programming before it is released, so we can expect some better framerate and then maybe some patches to clear it up even more.

Oh, and believe me, there are many many many more people that went out to buy SC:CT for PC than all of us on these forums...and they know nothing about hardware, so that's how the game sold. Shader models would mean nothing to those people.

Obviously you don't know what you are talking about then..

The only games that don'tt seem to run well is one that is poorly coded or just plain sucks..

FEAR looks HORRIBLE.It may be poor coding, or that its a very early release..Similar to Doom 3's alpha release... Show me a game that looks GOOD and doesn't run well on ATI hardware..

Run along little one..

I really dislike the performance of this game vs the level of graphics it puts out. Rollo is right. At the moment, ATI's performance in this game just doesn't cut it. Neither does Nvidia's, unless you happen to be running in SLI.

What I am worried about is the current trend in hardware. I remember back when you could buy a video card for $299.99 and it would play any game at any setting you wanted it to, and did so for a year or more. Either the video card companies have become very lazy, or the rate game system requirements increase has increased by a large margin. Now you have to spend $1000+ on a video setup consisting of multiple cards to run the latest games(I say games because I am fairly certain many games will follow this one's path) at maximum detail at high resolutions.

Come on Nvida and ATI pick up the pace, the games are winning and we don't like it!

I bet some people will still say that there is no game that can push the 6800GT.

Interesting logic BFG.

Let me get this straight:
Your midrange card can't play the game at all, so you think it's bad my cards play it better than anything else?
Uh huh.

It's looking like the GPU companies are paying the developers to make the games punish GPU's so everyone will run out and buy the latest:)

To me if its 4x tougher on the GPU, it damn sure better be mind blowing graphics 4x better than previous games. Sure doesn't look to be the case here.

??????

What's wrong with the post? I happened on the review, was surprised that it's not playable on ATI at all.
Seemed newsworthy, in same manner SC:CT being SM3 only was?
