I'd guess 450fsb will be starting to put stress on the MB (even with only 2 DDR3 dimms)

Northbridge voltage will be your friend, VTT will help too...

I believe it is not possible with stock cpu cooler. if i just want to have 3.4 Ghz then i think the setting of cpu will be

8.5 x 400 = 3400

but do i need to increase the vcore or not and if i use 1333 bus speed RAM then should i change the bus speed of ram also or not.

and what about SB NB & PCI etc settings. if somebody has successfully done overclocking for C2Q 9550 then please help me.

thanks

Yup ditch the stock cooler. That sucker would make a duo overheat. With a E0 stepping and p45 mobo 8.5x400 is almost guaranteed. I have a Q9550 E0 that would hit close to 95C at that speed with stock cooler in a crappy case.

there are some confusions i need to be cleared.

I want to reach 3.4 GHz. so if i increase the FSB from 333 to 400 then it would be 8.5 x 400 = 3400

PC spec is
* INTEL CORE 2 QUAD Q9550 2.83Ghz (12MB CACHE - 1333Mhz FSB)
* ASUS (INTEL) P5Q3 INTEL P45-ICH10R 1600FSB (LGA775+DDR3) 2x PCX SLOT ATI (CF)
* CORSAIR XMS3 DDR3 TWIN KIT 2X4096-1333 (2GBx2) XMS3 DUAL MEMORY KIT DDR3
* XFX RADEON PCX 4890 1GB 256BITS DDR5 - Standard (HD-489A-ZDF7)

but then

1) should i increase the voltage of CPU
2) if i increase the bus speed of CPU then i have to increase the bus speed of RAM and that will be from 333 to 400. is there any requirement of voltage increase for RAM.
3) can i increase the bus speed of RAM from its default i.e. 1333 mhz
4) if my CPU and RAM fsb is 1333 then should mobo fsb be more than their fsb for OC. e.g. 1600 or 1800 mhz
5) Should i lock PCI-E to 100 mhz and PCI to 33.3 mhz
6) what about the voltages of NB, SB etc.
7) what about latency settings.

3400 on the stock cooler sounds reasonable to me. Not much higher though. Your fsb calculation is correct.

You could go higher with a cheap hsf upgrade but I'm sure you already know that.

I run my q9550 at 3.4 as well. I have an asus P5q-e and 2x2gb of corsair ddr2-1066

8.5x400
1066 ram 5-5-5-15 2t
1.25v vcore
1.82 vdimm
1.12 fsb term
1.12 northbridge
all other volts set manually to lowest
c1e off
eist off
spread spectrum off

coretemps 57c full load with prime95 (xigmatek s12383 dark knight and arctic silver 5)

I felt the q9550 ran too hot at STOCK with the stock intel cooler, but good luck

In answer to your questions...

1. find your vid with realtemp and try the default voltage for your cpu. Test with prime95
2. set your ram to its recommended voltage settings
3. keep ram at its default speed
4. fsb will be 1600 at 3.4. you can set ram speed seperate from this
5. lock pci-e for sure
6. try lowest voltages first for sb and nb, you can raise nb if needed (sb will not be necessary)
7. set your ram timings to what corsair recommends manually

im waiting on UPS for the final components of my new system.

got the cpu from microcenter on sale and also i am reusing my old board.

q9550
msi p35 neo2 f/r (msi p35 platinum)
8gb (4x2gb) ocz platinum low voltage pc2-1110 5-5-5-18-34 @ 1.8v
sapphire hd4890 1gb vapor-x

got everything running at 3630 right now (427x8.5) on an arctic cooling freezer 7 pro and cheap silver thermal paste.
waiting for my new power supply (pc power & cooling 750w) and my new case to come in before i really squeeze everything out of the system.
