Granted there is not much to go on yet, but looking at the Dirt 2 benchmarks enabling DX11 causes a serious hit to performance. The sub $200 cards don't do very well.

Considering that DX11 is a subset of DX10/DX10.1, the impact in performance is the same going from DX9 to DX10 that going to DX9 to DX11, the main difference is that perhaps of GPU computing benefits, in the long run, more effects can be done in real time that DX10 wouldn't be able to do, the same as with DX9, but the developers are only pushing the DX9 because of the consoles, so DX10 might be obsolete long before it can be "maxed out"

PhysX shouldn't be considered as an important selling point to buy a videocard, the only game that used it properly was BAA, Cryostasis as a game sucks, it PhysX implementation is glitchy at best, Dark Void effects are pathettic, PhysX is a neat feature, but lazy developers aren't taking advantage of what it offers, plus its exclusivity to certain hardware slow down its adoption, probably will have the same fate as the dinosaurs.

DX11 is a non-issue... any videocard bought today would probably go obsolite by the time DX11 become popular.

make your decision based on:

software:
ATI software isn't as good as nvidia, but it isn't bad... still not as good but its not bad at all.

Physx:
Nvidia is the only one supporting it now... big deal for me but not so much for others. I have played at my friend's house and it REALLY makes the game better if the game supports it.

speed and dx11:
ATI won :( no question about it... I would prefer Nvidia winning however ATI has done an undeniable job uping price/performance.

My experience is slightly different,Nvidia drivers have given me more issues over the years(not a terrible experience but Ati drivers have been great for me),ATi drivers in Vista/Win7 x64 have been trouble free and I play a lot of games plus beta games testing,I do have two Nvidia PCs and one Nvidia laptop too so can compare stability, bugs etc...PhysX is not an issue since I could not care if it stays or goes the way of the dodo.

Basically my gaming experience with ATi in both Vista and Win7 x64 has been great and I do update my drivers every month as well.

I've had the same experiences as you. Had all Nvidia cards except for a 9800 Pro.... which unceremoniously died when it was less than a year old. My 8600gt was sucking, so I went out and got a gtx295 a month ago. Got called lots of names by people here for not getting an ATI, but I live by my experiences. So go get a GTS 250 or 260 if you can swing it.

Comparing nVidia and ATI is like comparing ford, dodge, chevy, toyota,,,,,, - each person will have their likes and dislikes. Some might be better then others, and each will have their fair share of lemons.

I have been using nothing but ATI for the past 5 years. Only recently have I been considering going with a nVidia card. Not that ATI is bad, but I'am ready for something new. After 5 years with a certain video card, it time for a change.

My first nVidia video card was the TNT 2 (Diamond Viper V770 AGP) back around 1999. After spending several years as a nVidia fan, I switched to ATI around 2005.

I dont see anything wrong with either card or company.
