Want to buy a 2011-2012 Mustang V6

Sounds to me like you are not really a car enthusiast, but see it more as a tool to get from point A to B. You will probably end up regretting the purchase down the road so a Mazda3 might make more sense. Honestly, $20k is not a lot of money these days and would not be considered splurging by any means.

Buy the Mustang. Make it a manual.

If you don't, you will regret it someday. It sounds like you're well off and you can easily afford it. Hell, buy a new one and support the American auto industry. Remember, being a scrooge is just as much a sin as being wasteful. It's greed.

Well considering the 2011+ V6 mustang is just as fast as the old GT mustangs (0-60 in under 5.5sec) and still gets 30mpg I don't really need the GT. My preference has always been the 4cylinder turbo and the V6 mustang trumps that while getting similar gas mileage. Could I afford/would I love a GT? Absolutely, but the new V6 is solid.

Drive the 5.0, then drive the V6. Or vice versa. You'll go home with the GT.

The current V6 lacks the torque of the older V8. There is a noticeable difference, especially if you go with the auto.
 
Another consideration would be the insurance cost going with the GT over the V6.

Either way they are fun cars to own and drive.
 
Buy the 'stang. There's nothing quite like having a car you love to drive, and it's sometimes okay to throw rationality out the window when you're having fun :biggrin:
 
I know I will be perfectly satisfied with the V6 as long as I don't drive the V8. Not gonna drive it 🙂 . Face it guys, the new V6 mustang is actually a good car. Not as good as the V8 but still a good car with great gas mileage and a pretty decent price so I can still be a little bit practical in my decision. Honestly if I was set on spending >$30k on a car I wouldn't be interested in the Mustang GT because I would be pulled toward BMW.

I'm talking with dealer who has a brand new 2012 Black V6 manual w/ the 101A package for $21,400 (still inbound for delivery).

Trade in my car for $4k, put another $4k down, I'll make $250 payments for a year then pay the rest off in full. I think I'm going to do it. Not sure when the car will get here yet though.
 
Back in 07 when I bought my 05 V6 mustang I immediately regretted not getting the V8. It was a cool car nonetheless, I liked it alot but honestly a 4.0 liter engine only producing 210 hp was thumbs down.

Hence why I'm only considering 2011+ where they have a brand new modern 305hp V6.

Yep agreed, new Mustangs are great and the V6 gets great gas mileage, way better than my car.

Only thing I have been noticing lately about mustangs is there are way more chicks than guys driving them, not that it really matters

Yeah it seems this was the case just a year or so. I've seen a shift in my area though where it seems like almost every mustang I've seen recently is a brand new Boss or Shelby with either a middle aged man or total hardass driving them. Shelby=middle aged, Boss=hardass.

I've seen a few middle aged guys in Boss's around here. These are they only guys that can afford to pay the stupid markup.
 
Have a lot of people gotten rid of their Mustangs, Corvettes, Chargers? I'm not seeing that many on the road anymore. Definitely not as many as last year.

I'm in a similar position to OP (except I've been driving a Camry for 10 years....) and on a business trip a few months ago I luckily got to rent a Mustang and drove around for a week in it.

Let me just say that before I actually drove in the car I absolutely adored it; the price was right and the power appealed to me after I had been putting around in a Camry for so long. The power was absolutely impressive (it was a V6) to me but the interior of the car was really underwhelming. The low seats give you limited visibility and really wasn't comfortable at all for me. I'd imagine people that had driven sportier cars before are used to it but it just felt really cramped to me.

My advice is to test drive/rent one extensively before you decide... I was lucky I got a week to find out how I really felt about it before walking into a dealership.

Now I'm actually considering the Genesis Coupe.... but that's another thread 🙂

I would take a genesis coupe in a heart beat as well, they just tend to be more expensive from what i've seen.
 
do not do it
1. you just got the job. what if they get rid of you in month. save some green while you can
2. mustang is very limited care for daily driver. you will get tired of it and will want to trade. buy car that you see yourself driving everyday for next 5-10 yrs
