Miami is a pretty large city, only assholes park this way there. If you know how to parallel park you only need a couple feet of clearance.

The other day, when I was at the post office, there was a huge red pickup truck parked diagonally across two spaces, and blocking the handicapped spot. As I'm walking out of the post office, I'm looking at the truck, noticing that the window is open, and thinking how funny it would be if I'd have lobbed my trash in there instead of taking it inside to the trash can.

Then I hear a voice from behind, "I was in a hurry!" I just looked at her and kind of laughed. My face must have said it all, because she kept muttering the rest of the way across the parking lot.

I certainly don't bump people as a typical parking tactic but when you're squeezing into a tight parallel spot it can certainly happen. Car bumpers have to be able to take a 5 MPH impact without and damage so I'm certainly not going to feel bad about tapping someone's car, especially since it happened lightly enough that I didn't even feel it.

Re: insurance fraud that's what I was the most worried about, buy the asshat who was throwing a hissy fit didn't even own the car that I tapped.

A good punch in the gut usually settles these kinds of issues. Unfortunately nowadays its "frowned upon".

The funny thing is that I live in Baltimore and I'm sure that the guy is too much of a pussy (or has too much common sense depending on how you look at it) to pull this sort of crap with 90% of the city's population. I was obviously completely harmless though (average size white guy in khakis and a dress shirt) so he decided to pester me. Oh well, the pest way to get back at douchebags on a power trip is to ignore them and make them feel unimportant.

Just a partially related story,

I have taken to leaving notes on large vehicles that take up more than one spot clearly labeled "Compact". The note just apologizes (for nothing specific) and says that it (again nonspecific) probably wouldn't have happened if they hadn't parked their huge vehicle in a compact spot.

It's just psychological, but I feel it's due.

:awe: I like that.

5MPH without frame damage. Paint can easily be damaged and marring/slices can occur.

If you can fit your fucking car in the spot there is no reason to have to bump anyone other than poor driving skills.

/thread.

In pretty much every thread you post in except for the cat ones you come off as a complete and utter asshat. Go troll your boat.

Tapping cars while parallel parking is a fact of life when you park on the street in a big city. People who can't handle that fact need to move to the suburbs or pay for off street parking. Anyone who thinks that the DMV is going to revoke my license because I touched someone else's car while parallel parking is an idiot, and if that douchebag really was a teacher then I pity his students.

Dude, because I post based on what is RIGHT, not what little turds believe should be OK to do.

Hitting anyone's car to park is bullshit. There is no arguing it.

It works great for those that drive beaters though...probably makes you feel good about dishing out some justice to the 1%er crowd too right?

I know I'm just setting myself up for more trolling, but...

It's perfectly ok to tap a car while parallel parking. Slamming into one is a whole different story but that's not what happened.

Re: beaters, the car in question was a Scion tC. Hardly a car of the 1%. If I saw the M3 that you supposedly own on the street though I'd be sure to tap it very lightly when parking in front of it just to piss your trolling ass off.

No, it's not. If you can't get into the space without touching one of the other cars, you have no business trying to park there. You need enough room for your car, plus room for the cars in front and behind to leave their spaces without hitting any other cars.

Trying to wedge your car into a space that's too small is rude and inconsiderate to the other drivers.

I was sitting in my parked car while someone bumped into me trying to parrallel park. Shrugged it off.
Cute mother teaching her cute daughter to parallel park.

If you live in the city, expect bumps from the most not excellent of parallel parks.
I still don't know how I managed some of my best parallel parks while intoxicated though. :hmm:

I live in an area where street parking is in short supply, a fact that everyone who lives here knows. I'm not going to waste gas and time driving around when there a tight but passable parking spot available. People who want to live in the city but can't handle the thought of their car being touched even slightly need to pay for off street parking.

That doesn't entitle you to behave badly. If you don't know how to park properly, you're the one who should be paying for off-street parking.

Hitting a parked car does not "just happen", this is ridiculous.

The only reason it's acceptable in some cities is because people are such self serving asshats that they simply don't care if they bump into each other. It doesn't change the fact that it's wrong to hit someone's car, and that said people (yourself included) are clearly incapable of parking without hitting an enormous movable object.

I'm not sure why you would risk an at fault accident on the good will of the owner of the car you are hitting.
