Wanna Get Rid Of The Beer Gut

I have gained a tiny beer belly from, er drinking and I wanted to know how to lose weight the quickest, I have a bad right knee at the moment so I cant do much exercise (problems with my quad too). Any ideas the foods to eat and how burn up the fat and get all lean ? Cheers
 
Try an elliptical cardio machine, like the machines made by precor. They are very low impact and may work with your injuries. Also try very light swimming or water aerobics. Also do cardio early in the mornings rather than later in the day. Obviously a good diet is necessary.

The fastest (realistic) diet that I know of is Atkin's. You lose weight quite quickly. Unfortunatly studies are showing that very few Atkin's people can keep it off and in 6 months other dieters have passed Atkins dieters and get better while Atkin's dieters are gaining it back. So lets forget the "lose weight quick" ideas.

I'm a big proponent of conservation of mass. Mass in - mass out = mass accumulation. If you want to lose weight, you have more going out than what goes in. There is no other possible way of losing pounds. Put 5 pounds in, take 7 pounds out, and you lost 2 pounds.

Excercise does affect both the mass in and the mass out portions (indirectly). Thus since you are limited to mild exercise, you should focus on things you can do directly. (1) Eat less. (2) Eat foods that will pass through you rather than being absorbed (high fiber diet).

Eating less takes will power. But there are ways of making it easier. Do what your mom said not to do: spoil your appetite. Eat a snack 30 mintues before a meal - a protein or fatty snack is the best at spoiling appetites. When you are full, stop eating. Use smaller dishes when serving yourself (you'll be surprized at how much less people eat just by doing that). Play music you hate when eating. Let yourself have treats, but just small amounts of them. Etc. All of these things have been shown to dramatically lower the amout of food people eat WITHOUT making them hungry.

No it will absolutely not help. You just need to do cardio. Put in some weight training to increase your metabolism rate too.

Situps will give you more muscle underneath the fat. The end result will be a bulky muscle and bulky fat. You'll look like you are pregnant. That is just about the worst thing you could do. Don't bulk up the big parts of you! Bulk up the rest, to minimize the appearance of those fatter areas.
 
Diet:

Lots of oatmeal for breakfast. Oatmeal gets your metabolism going, has lots of fiber, and is pretty darn cheap. If you don't like plain oatmeal, I suggest adding your own honey, splenda, something OTHER THAN buying the apple cinnamon/severely processed instant junk they offer in stores.

Lots of chicken, tuna, veggies, fruit, seafood, cottage cheese, etc. The more lo-fat, lo-carb, hi-protein, all-natural stuff the better.

If you like pop, drink Diet Rite--no sodium, no calories, no carbs, no sugar, no caffeine.....and it actually has a taste.

Exercise:

Brisk walking on an incline would be best. If you can't do that, anything that can bring your heartrate up and keep it up for ~30 min is a good idea.

Of course if you lose water, you lose weight. But that's called dehydration. You want to lose the fat in your gut, not lose water!

you'd think so, but our culture is so filled with fad diets, ab machines, wonder pills, etc., that i'm not surprised that people don't realize that eating healthy and exercise has worked for a long time.

Eh? Unless you need to lose a lb or two very, very quickly, losing weight by sweating is not the way to go and downright stupid. Back in HS, the wrestlers would put on sweat and body suits before weigh-in to lose that extra half a pound on a bike in a heated room.
