Further, I believe communities have the right to set their own zoning laws. If they don't want "big box" stores then too bad for the likes of Wal-Mart or Home Depot or Target. As a community, that's their decision to make. Eminent domain seems like a last resort for Hercules who tried dealing with Wal-Mart in a reasonable fashion.
I recognize and accept that...however, there is a certain irony to the fact that many suburban and even urban communities love having access to big black box stores, yet don't want them built in their back yards.

"Big black box stores?!" That almost seems like something Limbaugh would ("accidentally") say.

LOL...something got lost in translation, or in this case added on my part.

Disclaimer: I am supportive and open minded towards boxes of all colors. I apologize to any red, blue, purple, yellow, green, orange or white boxes offended by my posting.

Possibly, a dynamic that is apparent across individuals of every political persuasion.

Well, the beauty of democracy is that people have the power to right wrong, but they also have the power to wrong right. We have to hope that our liberal public education system functions properly to turn out well educated capable thinkers. There is no ultimate safety.

Is your home next?

7-10-2006 611 properties in the country have been take since USSC ruling, 50 properties a month

LONG BRANCH - A crowd of more than 100 activists from the city and towns across the state gathered on the Long Branch oceanfront Friday evening to call attention to their fight against eminent domain abuse.

The rally and march was held in the MTOTSA (Marine and Ocean terraces and Seaview Avenue) neighborhood on the one-year anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court Kelo vs. New London (Conn.) decision that upheld the right of that municipality to take private property for private redevelopment.

Residents of the MTOTSA neighborhood face the loss of their homes to Long Branch's ongoing redevelopment.

Plans for MTOTSA call for designated developer MM Beachfront North II - consisting of K. Hovnanian, and the Applied Cos., Hoboken - to raze the three-street neighborhood and construct luxury condominium units.

Could not the city have had other options? If not, they should have forced one upon the situation.

Eminent domain, like any such aspect of government, can be abused. Simply telling Wall-Mart to go shove it because it is the will of the people, wouldn?t be as bad.

Anyone remember the story about that guy who was going to lose his business because of eminent domain.. so he took a giant CAT .. like bigger than a D-8 and armor plated the cab and then started destroying all kinds of ****** in the town with it.. He was gonna get revenge.. He either took his own life or was shot.. I cannot remember..
